Roof mount Satellite Dish

I have a 2017 425TS Raptor and want to see if anyone has attempted to mount a roof mounted satellite dish.

Which one? Trav'ler or Road trip? We have done both.

Directv or Dish?
High def or standard def?

chuckster57 where abouts did you install your Sat. system? Is there one spot that's better than another? Like behind an AC unit? I'm thinking about the wind lifting it off the roof.

The selling dealer installed the Tave'ler HD for DirecTV at our request on our 414. It is roof mounted slightly off center towards the curb side about even with the kitchen fantastic vent. There are no worries about wind lifting the antenna when traveling, it rotates to face rearward then stows itself by folding the LNB up to the dish and folding everything flat with the back of the dish pointing skyward. You would probably have to travel in reverse at highway speeds to get the dish to lift no matter where you mounted it. The installation instructions just say to check all clearances around its rotational axis.

I personally have a portable satellite. Our dealership has installed several different satellite systems including the Trav'ler, Road trip and Road mission. I have done each type, and they all have advantages and disadvantages.

When these are installed, do you have a carryout option? I typically try to find trees get shade in the summer, so I would have reception issues.

I have looked at the roof install option for my DTV King Quest, but decided to keep it as a carryout due to concerns with trees.

Depends on how the coax from the satellite dish is configured.

X2

With the convenience center and satellite prep options(satellite cable runs to every TV), a portable dish can be connected to one TV by removing the Trav'ler SWM cable in the convenience center and attaching the feed from the portable dish through to a receiver. If your Dish types are different between the roof and the portable unit, there will be some reconfiguration necessary within the receiver.

If it is the automation you are after, there is a portable unit out there now which will find the satellites automatically. I may never have gone to roof mount if that model had a DirecTV HD version.

yes I had a King Quest installed on top of mine by camping world. Then i had Directv install 2 receivers. I had to hide all the wires and mount the switches and what not. works great! just have to have a clear view of the southern sky...

Roof mount Satellite Dish

Hey! I installed my Trav'ler ahead of rear air (over living room) on my 384PK. The dish stows in such a fashion that it's aerodynamic and trailing relative to the drive base. No chance it's coming up.

The Pathway X2 works well, just run your cable and set the X2 to have clear skies to southeast and it will auto find the sats. I have dish and using the VIP-211z and Wally receivers. The X2 is NOT small but lite and we put it back in the box and store it in the loft when not in use. The tripod for the X2 works good for any high winds that may occur.

We have the Winegard RoadTrip Mission automated mounted on the roof with Dish HD and have never had an issue getting channels with trees in the way.

I like my winegard carry out. Standard def is good enough for DW and me.
