US Mideast campground suggestions

Thinking of doing this route in the fall. The top 4 destination wishes we have (in no particular order) are 1) Colonial Williamsburg 2)Mt Vernon 3) Monticello 4) Gettysburg

We could make a loop and hit each place for a night, or I was thinking maybe we should find a centrally located spot and make day trips to each of those locations. That might be easier than moving camp so much. Any suggestions on a good centrally located campground spots to those areas?

Down near Williamsburg, we stayed at Chippoakes and I think Northwest River
Near DC we stayed at Bull Run and took the train into DC
In the VA area we stayed at Beaver Dam near Beckley and Pocahontas
Haven't been to Gettysburg yet. That's on the todo list for this year.

This is going from my fuzzy memory. After 3 months on the road, they start to blend into each other.

Lots of CGs in Williamsburg area. American Heritage is one of our favorites. Lots of CGs up the I 81 corridor. Not much close to Mt. Vernon. Bull run would work or maybe Fredericksburg VA. There’s a nice KOA there. Cherry Hill is in College Park MD and quick access to Metro and DC. Have fun.

In the Gettysburg area, we strongly suggest "Drummerboy". Fifteen minutes to center of town, twenty to the battlefield. Clean, quiet, and friendly.

If this is your first trip to Gettysburg, Grayline Tours gives a wonderful tour of the area, with a lot of battlefield, and area history.

Good Luck,
