Hwy 180 from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon?

I-40 around flagstaff is a mess
major potholes, the interstates around flagstaff are falling apart and i would like to avoid it next week on my way to the grand canyon

has anyone driven 180 up there? wondering how bad the grades are if any? and how winding etc
