campground cost?????

Last year our fav. campground about an hour from home changed there rates based on 2 adults only. They are now charging an extra five dollars per night per child. This does not seem right since it is a family camp ground. Are most places doing this now or is it just ours???

It's been our experience over the years that many private C/G & RV Park rates are based on 2 adults... some charge an additional fee per child, some only charge for children over a certain age.

Although it's no consolation, it's not just your area or your favorite c/g. Campgrounds (of all types) are also feeling the effects of higher costs & some are raising prices as a result.

Happy trails to you & yours, and welcome!

All of the private campgrounds where we've stayed charge extra for more than two people.

A few months ago we stayed at a State Park with the two daughters and grandchild. They asked how many would be at the campsite when we made the reservations, but we didn't pay extra for over two people.

It seems like a lot of places are going this way. I would much rather see them add $10 to the cost per night and say its for 4 people, rather than trying to break it down.

Kind of like I think it would be much simpler for stores to have tax already included on the price of the items on the shelf, rather than having to add it later at the register.

Normally it's just my wife and me but we still try to stay in state parks or state rec areas because it's a lot cheaper. We had a campgrounds we used to like camping at a couple of hours from home but they have gone up to almost $50.00 a night for full hook-ups (they now have a monopoly in this town, they own both campgrounds and a couple of the resorts). I would much rather stay in a state park with just electric for around $25.00 a night and drive an extra 10 minutes into town when we want then pay the $50.00 a night.

Not only kids, but I've seen parks charge for dogs as well.

I stay in provincial sites mostly but they don't have power so it is a bit of a pain when hot out.

We don't charge extra I really don't see the point other than people with kids being chased away. Kids aren't usually the problem it's their PARENTS!!

We get 30$ a night for a full hookup but we have nothing other than a campground on the edge of town

Our local RV park we visit some, Destiny RV, at last visit, didn't charge extra for more people camping, such as two adults, or two adults and a child. What they did charge extra for was electricity! $5/day for two campers, and then up from there! But, no extra electricity charge for the dogs!

And Mikell is correct! The PARENTS always seem to be more problems than their children. <put that certain Andy Rooney accent in the last sentence>

i have seen that on the rates too. it wasn't long ago we use to visit friends and family for free and i have't seen anyone that does that anymore. and i don't really see how charging for kids is benificial, my kids wont use anymore utilitlys then my wife alone. if they are going to charge for kids then they should remove the family part from there advertising. i can see the adults giveing more headachs then the kids, from my experience living in the city, kids will follow directions better then there parents.

The one thing I have seen is if the parents don't have respect for other people or things then usually the kids don't either. Kids learn from example and if their parents are not setting a good example then what are they learning?

I can see paying for over night extra people, whether adult or child.
Last year I was charged for visitor's who were only onsite less than 2 hours.

Extra charges

CG where my unit lands when I return to WV from FL started metering electric usage.
My total bill for 2011, 6 mo's in summer was $58.20. May/Oct
I don't believe it paid the cost of meter installation. I did not skimp on usage.
