Soft Start

I have a 2021 3700 FL that had an Onan 5.5 propane generator added when I purchased the rig. How can I tell if a Soft Start Start was installed at installation.
thanks

This is usually a used add-on. Damn wonderful product though.

You could remove the AC cowling and see if it’s there. Look one up online to see what it looks like and then see if that item is sitting somewhere in your AC. It’s a separate small box that would be set in any available space under the cowling and wired into your AC system.

Marty, is there a reason you believe you might be in need of the Soft Start addition? We've had three units with the 5500 Onan, two AC's and never any trouble. We have a 6500 Onan in the Suites and never any trouble.

The reason I was asking as thought i had read running two AC units on my rig was a challenge for the generator?
thanks

Here is the specific power requirements for generator use with Dometic 15K BTU air conditioners from the Dometic installation manual. Note there is a column on the far right of the chart listing generator size for operating either 1 or 2 A/C units. Generator size is 3500 watts for one unit and 5000 watts for 2 units. The second figure is the "footnotes" for that chart and in it, Dometic reminds the user that the "TOTAL RV POWER REQUIREMENTS" must be considered as well as the Air Conditioner requirements. Your 5500 watt generator meets the power requirement to operate two 15K units, provided you're not also trying to "operate everything else at the same time" in your RV. Just turn off the the "big power users" (water heater, refrigerator, microwave and any plug in users like space heaters and such) and your generator will be sufficient "at or near sea level". You'll lose power with elevation, so the chart doesn't apply once you start operating in the mountains.
