EVO LifePo4

Has anyone installed or used the EVO LifePo4 battery?

I have Ampere Time LifePo4 batteries for 2 years now and love them. Still holding 100AH each. Amazon purchase, great prices.

Ampere time is now Ai time. It’s is # 2 on my list. Good price, no low temp cut out. It would take 2 batteries where the EVO is only one. Maybe not a bad thing.

Will Prowse did a review of the newest Li Time battery a week ago on his YT channel. And at the 2 minute mark he is testing a low temp cutoff, which contradicts something he said early in the video. Just throwing that out there in case it sways you one way or the other.

Recommended charge rate on the Litime is 20 amps. BMS is 100 Amps has anyone tried to charge above the 20 amp specs?

I did see that video. So now here is a question. here is a question. The price is almost identical, what is better two 100 ah batteries or one 200 ah battery

I use a 45 amp progressive charger on two 100 ah batteries wired in parallel.

A single 200 is smaller and simpler

The recommended is basically a standard of charging at a rate of 20% of the capacity (100Ah * 20% = 20amp charge). You can charge at amperages of up to what the BMS allows but charging at the recommended amperage prolongs the life of the battery and is a good idea to charge at that rate when time allows. But I will jump to higher amperages when I want a faster charge (such as when on generator to reduce runtime by charging the battery faster.)

Some of my thoughts, but not all-inclusive:
I like redundancy so two batteries is the way I go. If one fails, the other will still work. (2 batteries = 2 BMS vs only one BMS on the 200Ah battery).

Two smaller batteries might be more configurable/flexible in the space you have.

With a 100a BMS on the 200Ah battery, you will be limited to 100a of charging rate. Same principle holds true on discharging. But with two batteries (two BMS) you are spreading that across both so you could charge at 200a and discharge at higher amperages (think of large loads like 1400w coffee maker is 116a)

Another plus to two 12v is that you could turn it into 24v if you ever wanted to.

Some quick thoughts, but hopefully others chime in as well.

depends on your needs, if they are 100-amp BMS in the 200AH battery also and you need 130AH to drive your inverter then two 100AH batteries are better, if you draw is lower then one is better as it saves space and wiring.

I do like redundancy. And thanks for all the response. Based on the feedback I just ordered two.100ah. Looking forward to the install. Thanks everyone for your time on this.

Need a little input:
Looks like I bought the wrong size wire. I have 2 - 100 ah LifePo4 in parallel. I have 2 ga wire. From what I’ve read it good for 115 amps. I have a 2,000 watt inverter and when the coffee maker runs it has a 140 amp draw for 3 minutes. I know the batteries split the amps but the leg from the + post I would think would carry the full load. Am I right on how I’m looking at this?
The cables I got are. 2 Gauge (2 AWG) Battery Cable UL MTW/THW/SGT Flexible with ends 5/16”
There chart on these:
https://www.batterycablesusa.com/2-g...able-with-ends
Is it higher amp ratings because of the multiple wires in the cable ?

I used mostly 8 AWG for wiring my two 100 a/h LifePO4 batteries together. I used 4 AWG for my main power to my battery disconnect switch.

2 AWG seems overkill, but if you can work with it I think bigger wire is never a problem.

You're not passing 200 amps through the wire, only what you are drawing from the battery. Not likely you'll be drawing even 40 or 50 amps at a time.

When my coffee maker runs its a 140 amp draw as my victron reads. Only 3 minutes but still 140 amps I’m just a little confused as a lot of wire charts show 2 ga goes to 115 amps and this site and one other show the 2 ga MTW/THW/SGT cable at 170 to 210 amps. I have read that the more strands the better due to the amp run on the outside of the individual wires not through them. The More wires the more amps

Do you have a link for the battery you are looking at? I am on evo's page and the only one they have close to 100ah is a 120AH which says 100amps max continuous charge.

Blue Sea Systems, a big reputable name in the marine industry, has some good charts and they have a nice circuit wizard app that is very useful because you put in your specific length, expected load times, temperatures etc. It can also be used for fuse sizing. Check it out. On their site they have a good discussion of choosing appropriate fuse sizing in different situations.
