IMO no. My trailer is 14k gvwr. I run in the 13, 3xx or so weight usually. I also run a pin weight of under 3k all the time and a truck payload of about the same as yours. I would never strap a 16k trailer on my truck...I would have a dually. Do some folks do it, of course. Do some folks pull 20k triple axles with a 250, yep.

Figuring with the trailer loaded for camping, 16k. Running a pin weight of 23% as I do usually = 3680lb. pin weight vs a 4022 payload. No room for people, gear, toys, tools, misc. in truck and no way to load the trailer to max gvw...the undesirable situation of always removing things from the truck; gear/people and the same with the trailer. About a ton too much trailer IMO.

I agree with Danny. There are also legal aspects in the event of an accident too. When we first starting RVing over 10 years ago I had a 2003 F-250 with the 7.3 Diesel and was pulling a 30' Rockwood 5ver that was about 9k. In 2014 we moved up to a 36' PT Crusader that was 13k. The F-250 pulled it like a champ but, I was over the F-250's GVWR by about 500lbs. In the back of my mind I was worried about getting in an accident and some blood sucking lawyer doing the math and claiming I was towing overloaded. So I sold my F-250 (for more than I paid for it) and got a 2003 Chevy Duramax 3500 Dually. All was well until we started looking at bigger heavier 5vers. The Duramax was rated to tow 15,600 lbs of 5ver. It was in need of new injectors (for the second time) so I sold it and bought my current dually which is rated to tow 32K of 5ver.

What ^ they said. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. (unless they're serving cheesecake after the fight!) Always better to have too much truck than less.

I guess the visual perception of the dually strikes fear in the heart of so many but the reality is that the mirrors on these trucks are wider than the rear fenders. And those mirrors are the same width as the single rear wheel trucks. They are not hard to drive and if you're concern is the difficulty in parking at the mall or grocery store, just park out farther from the store and walk the extra few rows. It will probably do you good, right? I do that with all my vehicles anyway just to save on the door dings.

I'm sure that some of you folks just don't like the looks of a dually but remember, this is about practicality, not looks. This vehicle is a tool, and for those of us that have used one (or more) I doubt many want to go back to a single rear axle. It is much more stable and there is a built in safety factor of having an extra tire on each side in the event of a flat rear tire or blowout.

But as we see here quite frequently, many choose aesthetics over safety and opt for more trailer than their choice of truck will tow in the legal sense. But ultimately, it's the choice we all have to make and I understand that everyone has a budget. But, I can only advise to use safety as the driving factor.

Pun intended!

You will likely be over GVWR on the TV.

If you want to play with big toys, you need a big truck. If the weights lead to a dually, get a dually or look for a smaller trailer. On the 5er, your loaded pin weight will most likely be about 3300#, not 2800# as the brochure's weight is suggesting.

3300# pin, plus 5er hitch plus any added truck cargo, plus passenger beyond the theoretical 150# driver is your actual payload.

A little more info;
We run a 2,800# pin, we added 1,400# to our TV with people, stuff. and hitch, if we had your TV we would be 400# over GVWR. Now your rig 16,800# GVWR at 22% 3,700#, even at 20% at 3,360# leaves less than 700# for passengers, hitch, and stuff.

Want to thank everybody for the info. To date the deal didn’t work out so I’m good with what I have. Added info if did get it problem would just have someone pull it the my permanent site. I wouldn’t be traveling around pulling it. If I did pull it it would have been a one time empty from the dealer to the permanent site. Thanks everyone again for the info.
