Bicycle rack

We recently purchased a Hideout 272LHS, and are very excited to get it out. Would love to put a bike rack for 2 bikes on the rear bumper, but cannot find any information about weight limits on that bumper. Can anyone let me know if they have done this, and what might be the specs? Thanks.

If it's the square tube bumper holding your sewer hose, that's about all the weight it's rated for in my opinion, others will disagree. The bumper is thin walled metal & usually not welded to solid. It can be reinforced.

Attaching items to the rear, square bumper will not be advised unless it is re-enforced. I installed a from hitch on our truck to carry bikes.

On our last fifth wheel I installed a Kurt adjustable hitch. I waited until the frame warranty had expired. On our present trailer the same hitch would not work.

I have the same question regarding a 2007 Sprinter 274RLS.

What I can tell you is that there is a video of someone repairing a bumper that was overloaded and failed due to metal fatigue: https://youtu.be/YIwtglKiBwk. This alarmed me enough that I am considering a tongue mount instead:
Curt Clamp-on: https://youtu.be/pD7dWdH4R5M
Arvika: https://youtu.be/HHudvwfpAN0
Jack-it: https://youtu.be/f1xheWrvN8o

Another alternative is the Swagman Over The Spare tire mount but after seeing the bumper repair video I think I would want to add the Mount n Go bumper re-inforcements.

Swagman: https://youtu.be/UxH8reXYH9E
Mount n Go: https://youtu.be/W7Ys33KTxHg

I haven't made a decision and would welcome feedback from the community.

Simple, as in keep it simple. Attached to the bumper, in any fashion: no, don't do it.

Instead have a receiver tube welded to the frame. Bike racks with bikes have a consider amount of weight on a lever, bouncing up and down on the far end of a fulcrum. You need a substantial connection to support it.

There are already some threads here about this issue. I've seen all kinds, mounted to the pin box on a 5er, front bumper of TV, and welded on receiver tubes to the trailer frame. Here are some pictures of mine, it's hard to tell but the receiver tube isn't welded to the bumper rather just resting there. As stated already don't mount any thing to the bumper itself.Click image for larger version

What out something like this.
bolt on
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Class-3-Iii...53.m1438.l2649

I put a tire mounted carrier and put on 2 mountain bikes gave it 1 jiggle / wiggle and took it off and returned it.
I put them on the bed

I have a two bike carrier that is mounted at the front of the trailer. It bolts up to the tongue jack and works well for me.

Front Rack

Here is what we use. I just transferred it from our old trailer to our new 238ML. Works great! Bikes are very stable and I can see them in the mirror.

I have this in a different post, but I have my bike mounted indoors. I installed bike mounts to the underside of my dinette seating. I just drop the table, remove cushions, and flip the seat board and instant bike rack. Bikes are secure, they stay out of the weather and back bumper not messed with.

These pictures are from our previous trailer, but I will be doing the same in our new one this spring.

I bought a Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk. Then use a 4 bike rack on it. The kind rack that the bikes sit on, not hanging for obvious height reasons.

This is the bike rack I use: https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Bike-...an/S64665.html

Traveled well over 3000 miles with four bikes on it.

Well, they traveled 3000 miles and I didn't notice a single bug! But they did get wet from rain. I think the truck must buffet the wind enough that they don't just splat on the bikes. As a matter of fact, I can't recall finding splatted bugs on the front of my TT either? Hmmm.

Piece of advice though. Make sure the bikes clear the tailgate in sharp turns. I had to raise mine up a bit to clear my tailgate.

Interesting! Last few seasons we were pulling a '13 Salem 21RBS with an '06 GMC Sierra 1500, and the front of the truck and the nose of the trailer were just coated with bugs. Having a good wax job was vital for ease of clean up!

Haven't seen how it'll be with the "new" truck n trailer... but if it's anything like the last one, a bike mounted there would be just gross by the time we got to our destination.

We transport our bikes inside as well. I built a small pvc bike rack that fits between opposing slide outs. The bike rack also works well for holding bikes secure once we arrive.

WNY'S option is great. I did the same thing and can carry 4 mountain bikes on my dinette. Safe and sound out of any rain or road debris.

If you have room in the truck bed, these do a very good job. I've got two sets of them, one for my bike and one for Peggy's bike...
