Dometic DM2652LBX Fridge, heater element failed, help
I diagnosed the problem as open heater element, got one on order but can't figure out how I disassemble the flue to get at it, I started unhinging the sheet metal outside cover but thought better of it till I get the new element, I need the fridge working on gas till then and don't want to get to involved right now.
Has anyone changed one in this model DM2652LBX? Advice? Here is a photo of the units guts showing the flue and element poking out.
Thanks Ray
here is what the element looks like on its own

Here's the link to the Dometic page for that refrigerator...:
http://www.dometic.com/enus/Americas...ctdataid=71807
On the right hand side there are a bunch of links that are of value to you...Owner's manual shows/tells how to change the element on page 13. There are also links for the installation manual and the parts listing for all the parts in the refrigerator. Maybe they can help you out...it doesn't sound very involved, but, the space is going to be very cramped to get the insulation and cap off the tube if your hands are very big...

Thanks, I was hoping for a less cramped, easier way I was missing but from the description in the manual there is not. Hopefully I don't get cut up on the sheet metal.
Thanks for the links.
I'm going to take pix and video and do a write up once I get it fixed up.

Ray,
To make the job a little easier on you, you can pull the reefer out of the cabinet a little bit. It's pretty much a matter of removing the "eyebrow panel, two screws under it and the bottom panel and two screws there, then open the outside compartment, remove 2 screws and the propane line. Then you can pull the reefer out of the cabinet about 6 or 8 inches. That'll give you more than enough room to work on the flue and replace the electric heater without risking cutting your hands. There isn't any extra room back there as you well know, and pulling the reefer out of the cabinet a few inches isn't a hard job. Actually, on our Holiday Rambler, it was faster to pull it out a bit than it would have been to try to change the heater with the reefer in place.
Remember, a trip to the ER to have your hand sutured is a lot more expensive and time consuming than making enough room to do the job safely
Good luck, hope it goes well for you.

Great idea! Thanks for the advice. Never thought of that, will make it a lot easier to do the work.

raytronx, Howdy;
You can also cover the edges with some blue painter's tape
to help reduce the slice-n-dice effect.
