Ready for buybacks??
I'm sure it's a long way out and hopefully won't go the same way as Audi/VW.

Either way ought to be interesting to see how it pans out in the future.

I'm sure every owner will line up for the fix if this is the result "To meet environmental standards, the Super Duty pickups will probably require modifications that could reduce power, torque and fuel efficiency, according to the complaint"

Yup, I can imagine all the SuperDuty owners on the forum will be "first in line" to get reduced performance, lower mileage and increased operating costs.... Who could resist that kind of offering????

Man, what a deal! You know this kind of thing is going on with all these sort of "new" diesels. Anyone for a Cummins?? Sorry, I don't even have a diesel but just couldn't resist.....

Danny, let's keep in mind which truck company actually WAS forced to by back more than 200,000 pickup trucks.....I don't believe Cummins helped the death wobble much.
I couldn't resist THAT little stab.

Geeeez! I just don't know - sounds like something is a little off here. Living in sunny Kalifornia, we are required to pass a bi-annual smog test. The truck is connected to a computer that is linked to a computer in Sacramento. Truck has always passed. Another frivolous lawsuit brought to you by our broken torts system. Probably started by GM

Can we go to burning coal again? No DEF, more pleasant exhaust sound, and a little PUFF at times.

CaptnJohn x 2. Now that the diesel fuel is better, can't we just dump the DEF and move on?

Would like to be passed by a truck and smell that high sulphur content rather than the chlorine one you get now.
"Detroit Diesel is the most efficient means of transforming diesel fuel into noise and smoke known to man."

Where I'm at everyone just rips the emissions out as soon as they get it off the lot anyway. There are tons of brand new, super loud, black smoke spewing hot rod diesels pickups running around my town. I'm not the smog police or anything but they can sure be annoying.

I had a 1993 (last year of the N/A 7.3L Navistar diesel) F250. There was NO WAY to start it in the garage with the door closed and truck windows rolled down. To do so was a sure way to destroy hearing for the next 24 hours and to need a shower/change of clothes before going to work. Those days are gone, at least for Ford, with the new 6.7L diesel, it's almost the same noise level as the 6.2L gas engine (on startup) and there's no "black cloud" out the tail pipe. I can actually cold start it and carry on a conversation in the garage while it's warming up.
My DW was disappointed when we got this truck. She was looking forward to using the engine noise to "intimidate" those who "tally in the fast lane".... Doesn't work with the new truck

My ‘94 Turbo IDI doesn’t smoke, but it will hurt your ears in the garage. Those that “dally in the fast lane” or cut me off are treated to 153Db of train horns. 5 gal tank, so I can get 11 seconds of FULL volume.

Why would anyone take a diesel truck that has plenty of power and torque, runs clean, and gets good fuel mileage and turn it into a smoke belching, gross polluter? I drove semis for 2.5 + million miles and I don't miss the sulphur smelling black clouds of exhaust at all. And, as I've said before, I like being able to see the mountains now and then.

It's the latest craze with all of the rich kids around here. They take late model if not brand new 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel trucks and do all kinds of weird stuff to them. They tune them up to crazy HP/Torque numbers and put on huge diameter wheels with low profile tires that stick way out. Kinda looks like tractor pullers on the street.

More money than brains ! Oops, reminds me of me when I was 17 and smarter than I am now at 68. At that point I was smarter than any of those "old people".

I think it went something like this:
Someone figured out back in the non-DEF days that you could massive power gains out of these diesels via increasing boost and dumping them full of diesel. The amount of diesel required to keep the motor from self-destructing results in the "rolling coal" deal which went fairly viral on the internet.
So now kids with money think it's cool.. And the only way to get it on a modern diesel (which has 800+ ft/lbs anyway) is to dump all those emissions...
I do think it's cool that these things can put down 1000 ft/lbs out of a ~6-7L motor, but I hate seeing them belch smoke down the road...

Unless you're trying to power a 30,000 pounds bull dozer, who needs more than 1,000 pounds of torque with modern transmissions? Belching black smoke might seem cool for a certain segment of the crowd, but when the rest of us start wheezing, they laugh and drive to another "arena" to display their smoking masterpiece. Seems counterproductive to me to keep travelling from place to place looking for acceptance when you could just leave the engine alone, drag anything that's commercially available for sale and have enough "footpounds of torque" left over to maintain a smile on the face of almost anyone....
I do understand the "pioneering spirit" of "if you build it, they will come" and "the wonderment of what's over the horizon" but really, belching black smoke to get there????

And then there's the guys that cut a big ole hole in a perfectly good box so they can run a single 8"+ pipe up directly behind the back window of the cab.
A perfect way to cover whatever they're carrying in the box with soot and whatever else they can expel from that pipe.
