Rigid step replacement

Looking for comments on replacing the entry steps with either the MORryde or Lippert 4 step model on my 303rls. It appears the MORryde offers the hand rail which would be helpful for the wife but according to their specs I am 2 inches short of clearance so would have to remove the hand rail every time I put the steps away.

Moryde steps

Our Montana came with the moryde steps and we really like it. I can lift it with a single pinky and it stays up in place real good. We bought an accessory rail and took it home to see if it would clear the base cabinet just inside the door but it would hit the counter top by about 2” every time - so we decided against the accessory rail. By the way - the moryde steps come with a threaded insert ready to attach the accessory rail (smart!) BUT the accessory rail package does not come with bolts, and the instructions do not provide the bolt size (DUMB!). Anyway the rail did not work on in our unit and the NO BOLTS pissed me off so we took it back.

The lippert has the big top step which we really like. When we bought the Monte if we were given a choice with no money difference I think we may have gone with the lippert unit based on the nice big top step. I did not get to see how easy the lippert worked compared to the moryde. We have only seen it at an RV show back in February but that top step is great!

Our Sprinter came with the MORyde steps and we both love them due to the no-bounce of the steps. They were factory installed, so I have no information about changing them from the traditional folding steps.

On the Moryde steps the handrail attaches on the inside of the step, so if the steps clear then so will the handrail. If the step is to wide the you need to order the next size down

Entry steps

...by the way - the aluminum folding steps that were on our previous 2017 Laredo 330RL were the best steps we had ever had - before the moryde - and the moryde steps are fabulous!

+1 on the Moryde. Our sprinter came with them as well and they are amazing. Extremely sturdy and easy to fold up and away.

thanks for the feedback, sounds like everyone likes them. If you replaced your original steps, what did you do about the opening in the sheet metal left by the old steps? I saw MORryde markets a storage box to replace the old steps but it is pricy for what I think the storage capacity is. Any thoughts?

Of course there is always the other side. My wife's opinion was that the pull down steps were a pain. More dirt getting into the rv and in tight spots it would be difficult to get into trailer.

We have the Lippert steps and with that 50 larger top step, think that's the best choice for us. I added the MORryde box after I took the original 'springboard' steps off. This is not a huge box but useful for odds and ends (I changed the common CH751 lock out too). MORryde offers a hand rail but it may interfere with a cabinet or counter when closed. A great and much less expensive alternative is the Stromberg extended grab bar.

IMO, either the Lippert or MORryde steps are fine. The arguments against them are to me too weak - water or dirt when folding or you can't open in a tight space. But if that's your reasoning not to upgrade - you know your needs best

My hubby installed the MORryde steps this spring - we left the original steps in. His thoughts were, that if we get another 5th wheel someday, we can take the MORryde steps with us. But we plan on keeping this one for a long time - we had our previous 5th wheel for 12 years. And, I think the MORryde box to put in that spot was a bit pricey, after paying for the steps, if I remember right?

as to what to do with the space from the old ones.... I cut off the pivot pins for the old steps, which removes them. Then crafted a wood door and put in on with hinges- use it to store leveling blockes etc. Works great!

We have the Lippert steps with the wide first step and really like them. Only negative is that when in the stowed position they are so close to the screen door that I cannot leave the dog guard on the door, not a big deal, takes about 1 minute to remove and 1 to 10 minutes (depending on if I drop the screws or not) to reinstall.

That's right. I'm making a another one just for traveling from 1/2 x 1/2 opening hardware screening from Home Depot. I suspect the MORrtde version may have that restriction too.

I just put the MORryde on myself, it took longer to get them out of the box that it did install them. Worth the investment, and quality craftsman ship. I also feel that these improve safety, I'm sure that everyone knows what I'm talking about who has installed them. It is a more sure footed entry and exit to the rig IMO.

Of the 2, I'd prefer a MORryde product over anything from Lippert. However, I've heard some people have to trim the bottom of the screen door when installing the MORryde StepAbove steps. If you can get your hands on the version with the assist strut that makes it easy to put them up that would be a great feature. I've heard that that version is only available to OEM manufacturers though.

Personally, I'm not keen on having dirty steps fold into my trailer so I'd lean toward the Torklift Glowstep Revolution steps if I was going to replace mine. They are a bit pricier than the MORryde and Lippert steps though.

I have the Morryde steps. Negatives: rigid hinge/threshold plate will be stressed if you don't adjust the feet level. If you park the 5th wheel with the door side uphill you might not be able to let the stairs down far enough. Then the door won't close and you will bend the threshold plate at the weakest point. Also if you stop somewhere on the side of the road for any reason, you must consider clearance for the steps. They stick our farther than the "Bouncy" factory steps. Positives: Rigid steps are great! Have the handrail and it clears counter inside. Wife needs the handrail.

I installed the Lippert Steps and I am very happy with them, well constructed, easy install. I have the MORyde Storage box on order, believe it will suit my needs even if it is a bit pricey.

Installed Morryde on my Montana HC 353RL with handrail. With handrail on and steps stowed the handrail extends 34" into trailer measuring from interior wall. The hand rail could be cut down and mounted up to 4" lower then there is a bend in the upright tube. I believe it still would be plenty high when cut shorter, as mine seems high to me presently and I'm 6' 3'' tall.
Would think making a handrail from some square 1-inch tube and wood handrail would be easy. Should cost less than buying Morryde version but I did on same order so that is what I have.
Photo show stairs down and stowed. We keep steps brushed off so not sure what dirt on floor people refer to. NOW snow as you can see gets tracked in and this did not fall from steps but from my shoes onto floor. I believe dirt much the same from your feet.

Install as said on anther post was very easy. I did not have any adjustments but have read others needing to trim or adjust screen door, but I expect theirs was not a Lippert door like my own. Also had door guard on my screen door that did not clear and had to remove the guard. So far no dog issues so I have not made another screen guard.

Tool box seemed like good idea. Not sure price is what I care to pay so stock steps still installed. I'm presently looking for another tool box to place in old step location or may make my own like mentioned by another post.

Our oldest Golden Retriever past away last February but his one year using this camper was possible for him to walk up/down these steps with the carpet wrapped around step so his hind feet would not slip. I had to carry him up the original steps. Tanner and my DW found them much better and far more sturdy.
