12volt connection for backup camera.

I have a cougar 29 RES. I want to install a backup camera. I need a 12 volt connection on the top center rear of the camper. Is there a constant source near that location? I don't want to use the clearance light for a connection.

Welcome to the forum.
Your odds of finding a constant hot are slim. The rear wall won’t have 12V constant hot at the center near the top. Why are you wanting constant power?

So when your towing, just turn your lights on and your set. If your TV has Daytime Running Lights automatically then your camera will be powered. IMO, driving with your lights on isn’t a bad thing and may actually save your life. We have sections of highway out here that have been “daytime headlight TEST sections” for years.

Daytime running light do not turn on the vehicles running lights. You will need lights on for safety, and to power rear camera!

Thanks for the info. We don’t have DRL mandated here.

I had the same issue in my 2015 29RLI. Sometime ago I wanted to put in a powered 12V fan in the vent space at the rear and no 12V connection. I ran a good quality wire pair thru the AC vent to the bathroom fan and tapped in there. Then recently for the camera I just tapped in at the rear fan.

I have a 2012 3/4 T0n GMC with daytime running lights but the tail lights do not come on. However I discovered that if I turn on my factory fog - driving lights ( which ever they call them ) my tail lights are on. If you are in a state that has the wipers on lights on law and you are relying on daytime lights check your tail lights.

Yeah, powered mine from the clearance lights and keep the camera on while towing, always helps to see the cars behind you from that prospective.

I have a 2017 F250, but all trucks should be the same, just turn on the parking lights.

Why not just drive with your headlights on when towing? I have been driving with headlights on for over 50 years, simple and safe. They make you easier to be seen, be bright sunlight behind you, coming out of a shadow on a bright day,
Just has always made sense to me.
