Any thoughts on HUSKY 16k hitch?
My Husky (16k) hitch has a red/green "BOLT" to let you know if the hitch happened, and locked in. The Latch pull trigger also goes from red to green, and rotates 180deg. to travel position. This all happens with every hitch, but I've had two false hitches lately. Thank goodness I applied the trailer brake and applied pulling stress, before the legs or tailgate come up, or it could have been a problem. Usually a second back and slam, seals the deal!
I've had a few false hook-ups, and can't find my manual ( paper or online), any suggestions on grease points, etc...?
All parts are clean and straight, no rust or deformity. I just don't trust hook-up, and feel lube may be the issue.
HELP!?!

Sometimes a little grease on the jaw pivots and latch will make it 'Snick' and latch a lot better. People say a fifth wheel coupler needs no lube but as an old farm boy believe in a little lube on any mechanism is good. BTW what shape is you nylon disc in? It may be worn enough to cause binding.

Thanks for the second opinion Blackrock. That's what I thought too... grease not on the pin or table, but just the jaws Disk is in good shape.
Thanks again

I'd take it apart and find out why its not latching. It may just be hardened grease/lack of lube or you may have something seizing /galling. Its a pretty basic mechanism and not very hard to disassemble. You might need a pair of snap ring pliers and maybe a specific size pin punch. I've not been inside a Husky but have serviced RBW, Draw-tite and B&W's and found them all to be straightforward in disassembly. The peace of mind in knowing its working properly is invaluable.

I am currently using husky 16K slider hitch.. Third season of use .. I have Teflon slider plate on fifth wheel, lightly lubricate the jaws and the 5er pin..I can get a false hitch if I don't back completely into jaws or if I am a smudge high.. I always get out and look at jaws to verify they have captured the pin and a pull check with front legs still down.. Love my hitch..

Re: Any thoughts on HUSKY 16k hitch?
Took ME Long Enough!
SORRY!
Found out, through trial and error, Husky expects a "lift and load" connection. ( Trailer slightly lower than wheel) ... My old hitch allowed a level load hook-up, but Husky triggers, but won't latch (green bolt), if you're truly level! (FALSE ALARM!)
Allow a minimum 3" lift to guarantee that the capture claw, doesn't miss the hitch, but still give you a green light. Then hold your trailer brake lever, while the legs are still down, and try to drive away. You'll know soon enough...
Sorry for my delayed response, it's been a rough year.
Good Luck!

X2 on Pull Toy's response. My Husky 26K does the same thing. You need to set the king pin a little low and it will latch every time. Level or high, no latch.

Have the Husky 16K slider on our GMC.. three seasons using with Alpine 5er.. teflon plate.. grease fitting on the main pivot bolt.. I keep jaws and such wiped down and apply a thin coat of red wheel bearing grease to jaw contact points and 5er pin..
If I back up too gentle or doesn't have 5er elevated such that it makes light contact with face of hitch I may not latch..
If I back up tad harder and have 5er height such that t makes gentle contact with hitch plate I always get solid positive latch..
I also love this articulated hitch because we boondock and an unlevel ground is easy to re hitch with this Husky..
Zero regrets with 3 seasons of use...
