Check Trailer Wiring message

On the way home today, I made a hard right turn at about 15mph. The “breakaway” cable on our 2018 Cougar 326RDS got snagged on some cargo and pulled out. As expected, the trailer brakes activated and gently slowed me down. When that happened, I got a “service trailer wiring” warning on the dash screen. I replaced the pin assembly and the brakes released. I drove the rest of the trip with no further issues and the brakes worked fine. I can’t get the service trailer brakes warning to clear even after completely unhitching and rehitching. I don’t know if it’s related but the docking light over the pin box won’t go off even when I disconnect it from the switch. Any suggestions?

In an effort to not get shocked while I was messing with the wires, I unhooked the battery. Checked all the wires and connections and found no issues. When I reconnected the battery the docking light worked just fine. I rehitched the truck and got no warning on the dash. I towed her around for about an hour with no issues. Everything worked like normal. I guess disconnecting the battery reset whatever was tripped.

Might want to ask your local dealership about this.

I would guess that you have the factory brake controller if you got this message?
