Re: Every Keystone owner needs to do this - fender hardware

I used pop rivets and washers on mine. Worked great!

Re: Every Keystone owner needs to do this - fender hardware

My Cougar is waiting a fender order now under warranty. I had stopped the screws from coming out almost as soon as I brought it home. The door side fender is MOSTLY on the slide. That means about 10" is on the coach. That leaves about a 1" gap to catch the wind at 65 mph and eventually break the area around the 1st screw. Just a design flaw I have not figured how to keep from happening again ~~~ yet.

Re: Every Keystone owner needs to do this - fender hardware

- I had to do the same thing to my 19 Premier, except I used fender washers inside and out to decrease surface tension, I also had to add more support to the skirting as it was being buffeted bad by passing trucks

Along with implementing some better screw installation methodology, the skirts need to be reinforced so they do not flap. Here are a few ideas: http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/sho...ighlight=skirt

Have heard a few thoughts on the split at the slide fenders. one that is really interesting~~ fiberglass the backside for strength.

Thank you for the info! Looks like a known issue. sounds like someone needs to adjust the clutch on the drill when installing these screws. Looks like a winter job.

I have a couple of the screw pockets break on one skirt. Tried to superglue and that let go quickly. Aside - why is it the only thing I can ever glue securely with Super Glue are my fingers? To each other? or the cap?

FYI - I looked at Jayco and Grand Design, I believe they are similar only they back the rear side in heavy silicone, which handles vibration... This may be the "easy" way avoiding the superglue and stainless locking hardware.

Personally, upon buying my Carbon, I simply went in and backed these with Gorilla glue (instead of silicone). No issues in 2 years...

I used the old style beveled faucet rubber washers and mounted them with the bolt...helps to absorbed the vibration

I used stainless bolts with washers on each side. Use a self locking nut and don't tighten them too much or the screw pockets will break out. A rubber washer is a good idea, but I couldn't find any the right size.

Is the silicone backing between the fender flare and the aluminum? Several of mine are cracking; probably because I tightened them too much.
