Angry Help My Slide Out is Stuck!

We own a 2014 38' Mountaineer (27FLF), it the one with the front living room. Both living room slides use an electric motor with gearbox and cable to open and close. My passenger side slide goes out about 18" then we get like a stuttering sound and it stops extending. If I press the button to bring it back in, it will come in a short amount then do the same thing, stuttering and stop!

A cousin of ours that works at Camping World said it is either the motor or gearbox. Because of the sound my husband feels its the gearbox.

So my question is has anyone else had to replace one of these gearboxes? And if you did where did you acquire the part? Or do you know where I can buy the part other than Camping world?

I've never had to replace one. Have you tried to move it in or out by using the recommended manual way. Your owners manual will tell you how. That or use YouTube or Google to see how to do it.

You should be able to get it so that you can take it to a dealer. I would also get some slide out spray made for the tracks and see if that will help. Go to You Tube and type in RV slide out for your model/brand and see what you can find.

Good luck

Tom

Is the gearbox making sounds like it's about to fly apart?
Might not be the motor or gearbox. Does the slide have any visible tracks on the bottom or is it just slick? Mine are slick. This is what I did:
Clean the sides and bottom of the slide out with a little Acetone on a rag. Test a small spot on the bottom first to be sure it's OK. Then spray the bottom and sides with WD 40 Specialist with PTFE. Label will say "does not attract dirt or dust". Spray some in the void between the bottom of the slide and the side of the coach. Don't spray the WD40 on the seals. Clean and wipe the seals with a slide seal lube, interior and exterior seals.
Mine did the same thing but didn't stop. I think mine was built up wax on the sides of the slide.
I read somewhere that 409 is used to clean the slide. Didn't help on mine.

Re: Help My Slide Out is Stuck!

I'm sure that you have your slide repaired by now, but I had the same issue with the wardrobe slide in our Outback. Slide would go out about 5 inches and stop, making a very abnormal noise. Checked all the cables and pulleys to make sure nothing was off track, broke, or binding and all was good. I knew the motor was fine because it would work the slide in & out those few inches, so it had to be the gearbox. I obtained a gearbox online from Dyers for about $100 which fixed the problem. I took the cover off the defective gearbox and sure enough one of the gears was missing about a 1/4" worth of teeth. I have not been able to locate an online supplier of replacement gears...yet.
