Post RAPTOR External Side Ladder

I noticed on the 2014 Raptors they have finally changed the design of the outside ladder. The new design allows the ladder to remain on the rig while traveling, basically folds against the rig when not being used. For us pre 2014 owners the ladder is a big PITA !!! having to remove it before moving and then finding a place to store this big thing. Unfortunately the new ladder brackets that attach to the rig are in different locations. The dealer I talked to said existing brackets would have to be removed then holes patched and new brackets installed. Even though this is a big pain not sure if I want to have more holes in the side. Was thinking of cutting existing ladder in say half and installing some form of sleeve over the ends that can be reconnected and then attached and used to get up on the roof. Then removed from the side and taken apart and stored as half size. Has anyone addressed this issue?? Is there any aftermarket solution? Any suggestions will be appreciated
Thank You

I dont take mine off ,I have pulled our Raptor over 9000 miles and so far have not had any issuse, Just my 2 cents. The only time I remove mine is when I want to get to the solar flag light I mounted to the top of the ladder.Just saying.

Post 102" wide Raptors

Thanks Crash. Based on your signature think your 2013 Raptor 384 was only 8 feet wide and with ladder left on <= 102" which I think is the max legal width limit. The Raptor 300MP and others in 2013 and 2014 are 102" wide with ladder off. To be honest I really never put a rule to it, Just remember Dealer stating to make sure to take ladder off when traveling.

I was thinking about the width issue too. Mine is 8.5' wide at the body according to my tape, the extra stuff hanging off the sides like awning brackets and ladder make it even wider.

I did this to the ladder right after I bought it. Makes life a bit easier.

Thanks T11ravis I thought if I waited long enough someone out there with a 8' 6" (102") wide Raptor, felt the same way about storing this ladder when driving. Is that the single cut? Appears your cut is just under the top rung of the ladder rather than say in half? Is there a preference ? What type material did you use and how long? Appears by picture you actually cut out a piece? Like it !! nice to know someone has done this looks like it should be as stable as before the cut.

For others that have responded, As much as I can find out max width on a road without a permit is 102" (8' 6"). Thought someone would have commented. Majority of rigs appear to be only 8' wide. Could not find width for Fuzions?? Some of the larger Raptors are only 8" wide. so say leaving a ladder on one of those your width will still be around 102" Whereas as on a 102" wide rig with a ladder you are around 109" that is sticking out there!! I have been on roads going to or in camp sites where tires were on edge of road and on line in middle of road. Have met RAPTOR owners and asked where is your ladder Had one before ............ Have snagged branches with the awning do not want to snag trees with this ladder.

Thanks for your responses

Just a single cut on the ladder, right in the middle to make 2 approx. equal halves. The pic looks a bit strange, that is the second window you see at the top, not the roof. Used steel rod from Lowes, pretty sure I bought a 2' piece that I cut in half to get 1' on each side of the ladder. I gave myself a 1/2" gap when I drilled it just to make sure the ends didn't butt together.
Seems just as sturdy to me, I weigh 180 lbs. and haven't noticed any difference.
Only reason I did it is b/c the dealer said it was too wide with it on...

Thanks T11ravis and abneynormal for the detailed information. If it ever stops snowing and gets above freezing for a few days around here I will try to get something done. Have to say when I watched the video had to smile thinking "OH BOY" a reinforced ladder, now I can really knock things over or catch to bring home while traveling . As I said based on information at hand I have elected to remove the ladder when traveling. Which is where my problem started "where to put it. It has been a Hugh PITA storing this big thing in the garage. Half length much better!!! The 102" wide body is plenty for my experience level and do not need 7+ inches more sticking out. Also I get concerned over being legal . Have already had parts or geese legs and wings stuck in a closed slide seam, with ladder on may have caught much more stuff

Thanks Again for your help!!

i also

use my ladder for my flagpole mount.a 2 foot long 2" id pvc pipe with a bolt through the bottom a cb antenna mount I put the 1/2 bolt through the mount double nut to let assembly act as a hinge and now I extend the pole put on flags insert in pipe walk it up into the air and bungee to the ladder up top. for a nice touch I have a spot light beaming up on the flags.

Ladder Needed

Anyone willing to part with their old ladder ?
I recently became the new owner of a 2005 Raptor and the ladder is missing. Keystone evidently lacks parts so my local service place is checking with Keystone's supplier (with measurements from my mount-points) to see if there is anything of current-manufacture that will fit.

I made up mounts and attached then to the rear. When I get to where I'm going I just move the ladder to the side

Make sure the measurements are checked. I had the same problem when I bought mine. The ladder was missing and it was new on the lot. There were a few others on the lot and they didnt fit. The dealer had to order one for me.
