Cable Slide
Really not looking forward to repairing the gearbox/ kitchen slide out on my 2018 Keystone Outback....[emoji848]
It has been in storage since last August with zero issues other than an out of stride auto leveling jack pad. That was an easy fix.
I went out 2weeks ago to check her out. That's when I noticed that the kitchen slide seemed to sound a little different...like it was dragging?
Checked all cables & pullies which looked fine. Chain was still tight. Everything looked normal. Except for the clacking sound when trying to bring the slide in which won't budge?
I pulled the trim away to monitor the gearbox & motor.
Doesn't look like something I want to tackle?!

Many times after sitting, everything sticks. I spray a dry teflon lube on all the seals and under the slide so everything stays freed up. I would try standing on the outside and pulling on the slide a bit while someone works the switch

They're easier than they look to replace. Just don't disconnect all of the cables from the hardware. Just loosen/remove the 4 center nuts at the cable end and mark the chain so it goes back on the same links around the gears. Once cables are loose enough to remove the chains from the gears it's pretty easy. Remove the gearbox and motor, install the new one. Reset the chains and tighten the nuts...don't over tighten.
I did this on our kitchen slide and it's worked fine. Ours had a broken gear and wouldn't move either.

I guess that's a lot of weight to move on a large kitchen slide vs the tiny gears in the gear box?
I've seen videos about propping/ jacking up the slide from outside before taking on the task?
PS.....I was checking the cables and pullies on a regular basis ; hitting them with some silicone spray etc> ohh well.
Yes on taking plenty of pictures before tackling [emoji6]

Update on the cable slide repair. I replaced the gear box myself after getting quotes from several mobile RV specialists and the astronomical labor/ parts cost?[emoji848]
I can tell you that it was not as bad as I first thought. Pulled the old gearbox & motor; replaced gearbox used same electric motor, reinstalled, adjusted/ tightened the cable tensioners and ran it in and out numerous times to test it!> worked perfect and even the movement was smoother[emoji106]
The PITA is actually replacement of all the trim pieces....

I have some strong double sided tape I will try first and just press it back onto the finish nails already there.

I would "second guess" using strong double sided tape...
Why? The chances of having to remove the fascia again are very, VERY good. Double sided tape can hold "too good" under some conditions and damage or split the fascia when you next remove it...
And, most RV's are stored part or most of the year. The heat/cold and uncontrolled (for the most part) humidity will take its toll on most adhesives used with double sided tape that can be removed without damaging the structure and most tape that would withstand the storage conditions without "falling off the wall" are so strong that getting the fascia off next time would be nearly impossible.
Screws with wooden plugs to cover the countersunk screwheads or as David suggested, some means to make it easier to hang and remove in the future.

You both have made a good case against the double sided tape. I think a couple aesthetically strategically placed screws would make better choice because who knows when and if the electric motor decides to fail.[emoji848]

If you look at the TPO roof under the gearbox, you can see the bubbles from the adverse reaction from the oil that seeped out. There was a TSB and “soft recall” because at one point they overfilled the gearbox with oil and when it got hot the oil would expand and leak out. I called the slide mechanism manufacturer and they sent me a free tray. Even if it isn’t an issue with yours, it is still cheap insurance against a damaged roof. Interestingly enough though, your motor/gearbox assembly is installed upside down so I don’t think that tray would work for you.
I left that area as-is since it is on the inner edge of the slide roof and never exposed to anything, but the outer edge I had an approved repair completed since it was exposed to the elements and moved past the upper seals when moving the slide in and out.
I used recessed screws to reinstall the upper wood valance and covered the holes with raised wooden buttons. It looks decent and it’s easy enough to pop them out and remove the screws to pull the valance off again if needed.

After that job you feel like you can tackle anything problem that comes along!?
