I think you will be OK drilling into the frame for the mount. You mention that you are aware of the weakness of that type of hitch as far as backing but I personally have other concerns as well. You're going to drill 6 holes in the frame to mount the plate. Will the frame collapse from that? I doubt it. Does it make the frame weaker in some unknown circumstance? IMO it does. The little tension bar used for sway, in my experience, was virtually useless. The trailer I used that type of sway on had a GVW of 6k if I recall. I had 2 of those things (one on each side) on it and couldn't tell they did anything. On the flat plains of W TX and SE NM along with interstates with passing semis, the trailer seemed uncontrolled all the time no matter what I did. Did away with that, got a 4 point equalizer and the problem disappeared. Now, with a 10k trailer it's the same. Just giving you a heads up that on a 7k trailer as you have that will probably be marginal at best; certainly not the best sway control I've ever experienced. JMO/YMMV
