Memphis campgrounds?

Can anyone suggest a good campground around Memphis base on your experience? Thanks heading up that way at the end of May.

Are you looking for a concrete pad close to town for a couple days of sightseeing or are you looking for a site further from town and more spread out for relaxing for a few days?

We live just east of Memphis in a suburb and would recommend the RV park at the Agricenter on Germantown Parkway or the RV park in West Memphis, Arkansas across the river called the Tom Sawyer RV park. People rave about the Tom Sawyer because it is right ON the river and camp at the Agricener for location only.

We stayed at Tom Sawyer RV park in West Memphis a couple years ago and EZ Daze the year before that. Tom Sawyer is nice, out of the way (about 5 miles from town, over the levy and subject to flooding if there is a fast winter snow melt in the northern states, so planning for spring camping there is "iffy" but a great time.

If you are looking for a "in town site" EZ Daze RV Park is right behind the South Haven RV Supercenter, just off I-55. It's close enough to the interstate you can hear the traffic, but it's convenient to Memphis if you're planning to spend your time at Graceland, etc. It's "pricey" at $50 a night for full hookups, but they do have an "in house masseuse" if you're inclined to get oiled up after a swim in the pool.... It was too "floosey" for us, we enjoyed Tom Sawyer more. If you go to Sawyer, make sure you get a site out on the water. You can sit under your awning and watch the tugs push barges up and down the river. Fishing is "OK" if you're into that, you'll be close enough to the river to sit in the awning shade and watch your rod a couple feet away.

ADDED: There are a couple of "resort campgrounds" about 20 miles south of Memphis on the river. Sam's Town is one. We stayed there when it was an Indian casino. Very nice, big sites, good condition, but it was waaaaay out of town and a long way to anything except the "captured, high priced casino services" so if you're looking to eat out, drive to town, etc, that may be a bit too far out of Memphis.

I was looking at both of those and both of you have reassured me that I was on the right track and Thanks. EZ Daze looks to be right off 55 and tha`s the way I will be headed up.

gearhead,

If you're only staying one night, Tom Sawyer is about 20 miles "out of the way" from I55 and about 10 miles "out of the way" from I40. If you're staying more than overnight, it's worth the detour, but if it's just to sleep and then go, it's quite a ways from your route.

We stayed at Tom Sawyer in March last year. Very friendly, quiet and enjoyed watching the river traffic after sight-seeing in Memphis. The drive to the campground looks a bit rough but found the sites along the river relaxing.

Another vote for Tom Sawyer. Have stayed there the past four years and enjoyed it very much.
Already have reservations for this year, but they would not take a deposit.
With the campground on the river is it subject to flooding in the spring.
