How do you keep your refrigerator fresh
When the refrigerator is off, how do you keep it fresh and keep it from mildewing? On our last trailer, we could prop the doors open. On this one, we cannot do that with the slides in. I know some keep the refer on all the time; I prefer not to do that. Someone suggested a small pan of charcoal briquettes in the refer and freezer. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Did your refrigerator come with 2 clips like the ones in the video? If they were not in the refrigerator, check the bag with the owners manuals. Will they work with the slides in? Hope this helps.

When we come in we shut down the fridge, let the freezer defrost, dry/clean everything and let it sit for 2 days open. We place containers of Arm and Hammer baking soda (for fridges) in each compartment while it dries. After a couple of days we close it up and we are good to go. Haven't had a problem to date.
I think the trick is letting it dry out completely. Where we live that is pretty easy with the heat and lack of humidity. I watched the video with the little blue tabs. Ours didn't come with the tabs when we bought it. Our fridge is also up against the island with the slide closed so that may be the reason why. I'm going to look for them anyway. And, if/when I ever get my trailer back I'm going to check on clearance between the front of the fridge and the island - I don't think I would have room to leave the door open 1 - 1 1/2".

Blue tabs for dometic refers are most often in the owners manual.

We used the blue tabs on last unit, but have not found them for this one. Besides, it is a double door refer and right against the island.

My 2016 Alpine 3510re has a small black clip that slides onto a post located where the freezer and frig doors close. When installed, the doors latch to the plastic clip, allowing about quarter inch gap for ventilation. That also allows the doors to stay secure when the slides are pulled in. Really nice design.

Our Alpine is the same way. In previous units we would put newspaper in the fridge/freezer. I'm not sure exactly how it works, I've been told the ink has something to do with it, but I do know newspapers work great for keeping it all fresh.

Not 100% sure but I believe there is charcoal in newsprint ink.

What brand of frig - we have a Norcold 4 door. We had the same question.
We had a break down on the road on our last RV (90 miles from home) and it was at the RV shop for a month and we were not able to clean out the frig. What a mess when we picked up the RV. It took allot of scrubbing to get it cleaned out.

Typically, we leave the door open to let things completely dry, then use the blue clips to hold the door "very slightly open" during storage. Fortunately, with our floorplan, we can access the refrigerator with the slide closed. The table and chairs sits in the slide and there is enough (barely) room to completely open the refrigerator with the slide closed.
I have heard, but not had the need to try, that wiping down the interior with vinegar, letting it dry and then putting a scoop of dry, fresh coffee grounds on a paper plate will keep the interior from molding. This, of course is after a "green gooey mess" has grown on the inside.

Down here in our constant humidity and heat it is very important to completely dry all surfaces of the interior and to allow air flow throughout. You would be surprised at the amount of water that will accumulate when the unit is defrosted after a few weeks of use.
We make a "no rinse" solution the DW read about in some magazine.... We use it whenever we are going to store the trailer with the fridge turned off...
Combine the following in a gallon of hot water: 1 cup clear ammonia, ˝-cup vinegar and Ľ-cup baking soda. Pour into a spray bottle, or use from a bowl with a sponge. This formula is a degreaser that prevents mold and mildew. Wipe down the entire refrigerator with this solution, including the drawers and shelves... We then prop the doors open with the blue clips and put an open container of Arm & Hammer baking soda in both doors...
BTW... DW uses this solution on all the counter surfaces when cleaning.. works great...

We have a Norcold, the clips to hold the door open are built into the door. When we get home, unload it, leave door open, then after a while dry it down, pull clips out and close door against extended clips. Never had a problem except once when clips were pulled out and door slammed shut which forced clips back into door. yes had some mold build up that needed to be cleaned
Added: I guess time for a nap, Correction not a Dometic its a Norcold, have Dometic on the brain Good Night

Today, I started to PDI a 2018 trailer. Found the refer owners manual and looked for those bright blue tabs...guess change is inevitable:

Magic Potient #9 i-e-I-e-n! Sorry my age is showing... LOL
I have found that if you clean and dry thoroughly all interior surfaces, and let air out. Add "Arm and Hammer" (or equivalent) box to fridge and freezer, even if you split one box into two saucers. Then block doors open, even if with only folded paper towels.
We're spoiled, our 3535 lets us keep one set of doors open even with sides in. But you should be able to keep your doors propped open , even a crack, just pad any rub points, you probably won't be travelling this way anyhow.
Good Luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions. My refer is a Norcold 2118X series, side by side. No clips to hold it open, but I'll check to see if they are built into the door. I will also check slide clearance, hopefully I can prop them open a little.

I guess they ended up contracting with a different lowest bidder.

Hopefully someone with the same model has come up with a solution - we have the 2118SST.
