Texas to Colorado Trip

I'm looking at taking the family on a camping trip to Colorado in the summer. My end point would be Moraine Park. When I did this trip 2.5 years ago, it was just 3 guys. I didn't own a TT at the time. We did Pagosa Springs, Moraine Park, and then Medicine Bow (Wyoming). I felt like we drove a lot, even with 3 drivers. This trip I'm thinking we stay near the I-25 corridor. Right now I would go to Cherry Creek State Park (Denver), Moraine Park (RMNP), and Cheyenne Mountain State Park (Colorado City). Are there any places along I-25 that would better (or I add should add to the trip)?

Garden of the Gods, Cog Railway and 7 falls in Colorado Springs. Best make reservations ASAP. Mostly for Cherry Creek.

We agree with what Richard said, plus while in that area don't miss Royal Gorge and Skyline Drive just a couple miles from the gorge. How about a train ride through the gorge along the Arkansas River.....And also what Richard said; make the reservations NOW.

Are those better options at Colorado Springs (or just alternatives)?

If it were me I would stay at some of the places listed above and leave Denver out of it. The last time I flew into Denver all you could see was the orange haze of pollution over the city - looked very much like Juarez Mexico. Didn't really see it when in town. I have a very good friend that lives there (Aurora) but I only go see him now when I feel guilty - too old to try to kill myself with pollution.

You don't mention how much time you have but CO is a beautiful state and you sure limit yourself by sticking to I25, plus, depending on weather, that drive can be ugly when the weather is bad. If you're just looking for pretty; Estes Park, Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, Walden, CO (moose capital of the US ) among others. Lots of other places to the west but sounds like that would be a different trip.

I could leave Denver off, but I think the DW wants to visit some places in Denver.

I don't have a lot of time to explore. I will probably work some (remote) and take some vacation days. I'm hoping to carve out 2 weeks total.

As mentioned don't doddle on the reservations along the I-25 corridor.
My advice would be to stay west of the continental divide.

Where did you stay at in Pagosa Springs? We stayed at Sportsman Campground in 2014.

I haven't booked anything, due to my work schedule. I'll probably look at later in August when most are back in school.

Sportsman's. It was a tight squeeze with a 40' 5th wheel, but it sure is worth the drive up that road.

We got back last week from our Colorado trip. We stayed in Santa Fe a couple of days on the way out and Sumner Lake on the way back. Our destination was Pagosa. In Pagosa, we stayed at Sportsman's Campground, Teal Campground, and then Pagosa Riverside. Teal Campground is the best site I've had for scenery. It was close to the reservoir and a great view of the mountains.

I need to call Sportsmans for reservations next summer. We used to go there just for a shower when we elk hunted near there.
We have camped in summers in Teal campground. Our hunting camp was at the dead end of road# 987 just west of Teal.
Very nice country.
edit add....the Buckles Lake area is pretty good too.

I grew up in Co. I took my wife there April 275th 2001 and it snowed three times that day! Lol and when we left may 55th we flew off in a blizzard.
I'd say Estes park, Royal gorge, too much to see in Co.
