New Keystone Bullet owner

Hello all,
I just wanted to say hi. I just bought my first travel trailer the Keystone Bullet 243BHSWE. Currently learning all the accessories that I will need to take it on it’s first trip. Looking into haveing a battery disconnect installed. Not sure if it can/should be done just starting to research it. Being a travel trailer is a whole different world compared to tent camping but I’m looking forward to the change. When I was younger I spent a lot of time rv camping with my parents in their motor home and have fond memories of our trips. I’m hoping to gain some good information and meet other owners on here to share the experiences of owning the new travel trailer with.

Congrats on the Bullet and welcome to the forum! You found a great place to learn and share. Lots have installed a battery disconnect, I have not. If you use the search box, you'll find a lot of information on them. Others will chime in to give you more info if you need it. Take it slow and easy, and have fun!

Congrats and welcome to the forum. Half if the fun is modding your trailer. You'll find a lot of good information here on just about any mod you choose. Be sure to take photos and document anything you do so that you can share it. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new trailer! You've got a lot of pleasant experiences awaiting....especially compared to tent camping. My trailer came with a battery disconnect but the way we use ours I never use it and all it's ever done is give me trouble.

Welcome to the forum from Central CA and congrats on your new camper.

If you do a forum search you will find several threads/posts regarding the pros and cons of a battery disconnect. Some folks find them indispensable while others don't even use the partial disconnect that comes with their trailers.

I think it depends on how and where you store your RV between trips. We keep ours on our property and keep it plugged into a 30amp receptacle. This keeps the batteries charges and makes it easy to pre-cool the refer before a trip and does away with having to connect/disconnect the batteries and then putting them on a charger.

The easiest total disconnect is remove the negative cable, nothing to buy or install.
Congratulations on the new rv & enjoy! There's a lot of adventures awaiting you some memorable, some will be unforgettable!

Thank you

Just wanted to thank everyone for posts. I did think about disconnecting the negative cable but looking for something a little easier that my wife can do without having to teach her an auto mechanics class. I’ll search the forums and see what others have done. Again thank you for the welcome posts.

This is what I have used for a disconnect - a simple top post disconnect which attaches to the terminal post of the battery inside your battery box. Easy "screw up" to disconnect and "screw down" to re-connect. 2 second job everytime, and it's a hard cutoff of the battery, so no parasitic draw.

Hello,
New Bullet 243BHS supposed to be delivered to dealer on May 14th. Here's hoping.
Considering these add-ons: WDH (sold ours with old TT), vent cover, slide topper, 2 12v deep cycle batteries w/quick disconnect, and the Resist-All wax application (so much easier to clean). Any thoughts or suggestions?
Am NOT going to purchase an extended warranty. Will think about that when mine expires. When I actually read the fine print on previous, realized that I pretty much wasted $1,800.
Anything particular we should look for during the PDI? Have printed an extensive checklist.
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

I would definitely consider the vent covers and the slide toppers, dual batteries yes but not by the dealer...too much $ for too little battery in my opinion, plus the batteries you could get elsewhere might also be much fresher. Check their price on the WDH but I'd suspect you could buy it for much less also elsewhere. We purchased the extended warranty with ours as it wasn't available after the fact but it could be from a different company, many don't believe they are worth the money and they may not be but we did it anyway. We didn't get the paint protection on ours...well at least we didn't pay extra for it as I'm not so sure they didn't already put it on. Its probably a better investment than the extended warranty.

Bullet finally arrived at the dealer yesterday. Whew! We have reservations for the 24th. PDI is on Thursday, the 22nd. Have my checklist. Yes, batteries and WDH somewhat cheaper on line, but just easier to have the dealer do it. We're old, LOL. They said Interstate 12v deep cycle, hooked together in parallel with quick disconnect (husband said get it). WDH is a Trekker and we would have no idea how to install or adjust. Anything specific to look for during the PDI that Bullet owners have had issues with? Seems like all I read in forums are horror stories.

It sounds like your set to pull it off the lot in 4 days. Remember the PDI is to find issues the dealer needs to fix. If you're extremely lucky you'll find none and be out the gate in no time. Reality, however, is quite the opposite. You will find issues, hopefully they will be minor, the dealer can fix them with in a few minutes and all will be right in the world. If you do find an issue that is large or the dealer doesn't have the supplies to address, I'd suggest you leave it there. It will likely be difficult to get them to address those issues later in a respectable amount of time. Once you leave the lot the warranty repair struggles begin. I don't want to be a downer, rather I want you to be aware. I hope all goes well and your PDI is easy and trouble free.

Thank you, 5J's. Am fortunate to have a very good dealer. Previous TT had some minor issues (including replacing the air conditioner). Brought it back and they fixed everything within a week. Was supposed to be 3 or 4 days, but they called and said they had an out of state motor home with big troubles and could they have my slot to try and get him back on the road. Obviously I said sure. They are also about 10 minutes down the road, so getting there isn't a problem. However, this is the busiest time of year for dealers in New England and they want to get those new campers PDI'd and out the door so they get their money! Am a little concerned that they scheduled the PDI for 3:30 and they close at 5:00. Mentioned it to the service guy and he said we're here until you are satisfied. Here's hoping.

Make sure they go over every aspect of how to operate everything. Take a video with your phone for reference. Do not assume anything, even with previous RV experience. Make sure they show you where the hot water heater bypass is. The water pump location. Circuit breakers. Fuses. Everything!
