Door locking by itself from outside

The latch on our entrance door has started to lock without the key. The cylinder where you put the key on the outside (not the deadbolt) rotates to the lock position, presumably from vibration of opening and closing the door.

Fortunately, DW has been inside every time it's happened and says the red handle hasn't moved to the lock position.

Is there a simple fix for this or would it be easier to just replace the entire assembly? If the latter, is there a particular lock or brand I should look for?

TIA.

I've not had the problem you describe but thought I might suggest that it might be a good time to go to a keyless entry lock?

We have decided to do that, and will, when I get my trailer back out of the shop. Just thought it might be something you would want to consider.

There was a recall from I believe FCA several years ago regarding locks that do what your describing.. try googling for it (I think I even found out about it here). They sent me new cylinders and keys... It solved the problem

If you go to the link below it is for Wesco the supplier of FIC locks. There was a recall for my '07 and they sent new keys, tumblers, replacement tool and return envelope for tool and locks. Great company to deal with.

Until you get new cylinders always return the key to the vertical position before removing it. That should help.
