Fake Amazon reviews or fake news ?

.

I am so confused lately with fake news, news about fakes, fakes making news, countries being fakes, clickbait, hoax, outright lying, Snopes. Getting to old for this $hitt !

Here is the Washington Post story about it.

Simple rule of thumb is if it is on Facebook, just discount the value about 95%. Makes life easy.

While I wasn't there (even though my grandkids think I'm old enough), I'd suspect that some vendors in the old Roman Open Market claimed their salt was better than the competition's salt. Merchants have been making claims about their product for thousands of years. Nothing's changed except the mechanism by which they make those claims.

We can't even get the "experts" to agree on whether eggs are good for you or bad for you.....

As suggested, turn off the computer, TV and put down the newspaper/magazine, take a "chill pill" and go camping. You might even consider using that newspaper/magazine for a "good purpose" of starting a campfire to sit around and ponder what's good in life...

Or put the newspaper in the bottom of the canary cage.

I don't Face or Twit, waste of time. Unlike talking to the group on this forum.

Ordered something and it came from China, not CA as stated. Next 10 item searches 7 were found less expensive on other sites. One was a reproduction. So, 9 of 10 I was better off with other merchants. Examples, $129 on Amazon and $87 at Farm & Fleet, needed 10 of a $1.99 Amazon item with free shipping found on Radio Shack for 80 cents plus $3.99 shipping, RV flag pole kit was $129 on Amazon and $109 royal on another site. Often Amazon collects sales tax while that is often another 7% saving. Never buying anything from Amazon again. Would like to block them from all searches.

Hey Brian, it's OK!!

I agree there's a lot of "stuff" out there, and much of it is aggravating, but don't let it get you down. Fight it when you can; rebuff, rebuke and edify as you deem appropriate, but most of all, don't let it get you wound up.

As far as products you just have to keep a keen eye on the reviews and do your best homework to make sure what you're buying is indeed "that" good of a product. Amazon isn't alone. Look at TripAdvisor. If you read many of their posts for restaurants or lodging some of them are off the wall and many DO sound like they come from someone paid to either talk them up or run them down.

Take it all with a grain of salt, cross your fingers, hit the enter button and wait for the box expecting the very best!!

We don't watch the news, it's mostly political BS! The weather man has the only job that you can be wrong 90% of the time & still get paid! Don't watch sports as those folks are ALL overpaid prema donnas & don't need me helping to support them! The crap people post on any of social medias is of absolutely of no interest to me, who cares what Joe Blow had for dinner or where. As for shopping I might pay a bit more but I'd rather support local merchants than be surprised at the piece of crap item I ordered from Amazon not being even close to what I ordered.
Boy do I sound like a grumpy old fart!

Some friends have facebook, most do not. I do not. I do read ebooks and read the reviews to help about if I might like it or not. I will soon be published and sell the book on ebook-Amazon. I might see 1st hand how the reviews stack up as real buyers or not.

When I looking to make purchase online, I look at multiple sites, but focus more on the negative reviews than the positive. I will quickly browse the positive ones, but I want to know what didn't work more than anything else. I will do this on multiple sites to get a fairly good picture of the item. Then once I find the exact model I would like to purchase, I search for best price and availability. Sometimes the best place is local, sometimes it's amazon, and sometimes it might be ebay or other sites.
