Excited! It's here

Got a call today that the trailer we ordered was in. 4 weeks and 2 days from order - we weren't expecting it for several more weeks - must have hit the production cycle just right. We went out and spent an hour looking it over and really liked everything about it. We are having some stuff added and won't PDI until next Tuesday. Looks like the perfect floor plan for a couple of retirees that like to stay in the woods rather than on the lots.

Congrats. Nice floor plan, our first trailer had similar layout with rear kitchen. Miss that table across from couch configuration.

I have three favorites here in Oklahoma. First is Beaver's Bend. The next favorite was Cedar Lake but the USFS just shut down the nicer RV portion - bummer! Another favorite is Roman Nose State Park. I like to take kayaks to these and other places. I grew up in LeFlore County so I'm pretty familiar with the streams down there.

But, my real preference is traveling. Colorado last summer - Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier the year before that and Great Smoky NP the previous year. We may make it to South Dakota this fall but I'm saving my $$ for a 50th anniversary Hawaiian trip and cruise next Spring. That's my wife's favorite place so we may just make short trips until that is over.

I just like being out and about.

new camper shakedown

This is how I always do with a new trailer. Put it in the driveway for 3-4 days and check and double check everything. The PDI went well (except for the hitch) but I like to do it all on my own again. So far, so good! After a couple more times I'll put it in the storage amd then in a week or so we will take an actual 2-3 day trip.

The hitch thing was almost comical. This was an experienced dealership that does many Equalizers. First, they mounted the brackets upside down, then after I told them about it they mounted the inside correctly and the outside upside down and their hitch specialist couldn't figure out how to get proper adjustment. I gave them another lesson and then did it myself.

Anyway, it's here and I'm pleased with it so far.

Howdy All;

Always been a huge fan of being able to access the fridge and microwave
and other 'necessities' while the slide is retracted.
Here's to many happy excursions ...cheers.

One Problem

We picked it up today.
One minor problem. We couldn't verify it till we got home and could check online.
The pantry/wardrobe in the slide out is smaller than previous versions. Smaller even than the one pictured on Bullet's floorplans web page.
See (http://www.keystonerv-bullet.com/ind...t&model=248RKS) and look at snapshot pictures.
Three doors - one pantry door and two doors on the wardrobe. Also, three drawers at bottom. FLC's picture shows two doors and no drawers underneath just two more short doors.
Gonna contact Keystone tomorrow for maybe an explanation.
Lots of storrage was one of the main reasons for choosing this trailer.

We noticed that also at the PDI. I just figured it was a 2012>2013 change. I actually prefer not having the drawers so they won't come open on rough road travel. At first we were disappointed in not having two hangup wardrobe panels instead of one. However, after loading the trailer with everything we carry it's still got more space than we need.

I did notice something else today. When using the fresh water tank (not city water) you must be very careful flushing the Thetford 31653 toilet or water will come out of the bowl. This was only with the fresh water tank/water pump. When on city water, with a water regulator in place, it did not happen. The only thing I can guess is the water pump must have pretty high pressure. I'll be talking to my dealer about that next week.

Don't know if you noticed yet or not but the new Bullet sits higher than the 2012s. High enough that you need a three step entrance ladder instead of two. I noticed that immediately on first look at mine because it was parked next to three 2012s (all different models.) All three of those were significantly lower to the ground than my 2013.

What’s below that wardrobe/pantry? I see some blank space. And isn’t that cabinet area the same width? It sounds like the issue is the height of the that storage area, which is why I ask what’s below it. And is that blank space the same height in both years? I looked at the Keystone site and the snapshots show the drawers, so I’m not visualizing what lower cabinets would look like or how far down they go.

The height of the pantry/closet is the same on the 2012 and 2013. The 2012 had three drawers below the pantry/double closet. The 2013 has only a single closet. Where the drawers were is now two small doors accessing a single small storage compartment. For us that works great as that's where we store our shoes. The real difference between the 2012 and the 2013 is that the slide on the 2013 has been shortened the distance of that missing closet. I think part of the problem is that Keystone simply changed the year on their web site and didn't show the actual model year changes. None of that bothers me at all. In fact I think the smaller slide reduced the dry weight a little bit. I did not opt for the factory electric hitch on mine because it is the same hitch I had on a previous trailer. A couple of times it blew fuses. Instead, I installed a Barker 3500lb on my Bullet.

Mine has now had everything checked out about 3-4 times and I just took it to my covered storage lot (too much hail here in Oklahoma to leave it out.) I plan to take out the hang up rods in the small closets on the side of the bed and add a couple of shelves in those. We usually travel in Shorts, Jeans & Tee shirts which we fold.

We will take our first short trip in a week or so. Then we need to add some states to the map.
