Jim, Thanks for the post. I didn't trust the mount on my '07 from the beginning .... I carry my spare in the bed of the truck .... at least I know it's not going anywhere. I lock it to the hitch rail.

Tire holder

Jim - thanks for the post as mine did crack a few months after I bought it - also a member of Rv.Net but didn't see the recall notice - will contact keystone as long as they will replace it for free - I reinforced the carrier but would rather have a new one - that is the only thing that has gone wrong with my 2009 Cougar 318SAB 5th wheel purchased last April - Bob

carrier recall

I'm assuming when they use the term 16+ they mean a 16 wheel and tire. Mine is 15" so I guess I'm OK?

Thanks Jim,

My Cougar doesn't fall within the parameters of the recall (year model, 15" tire) but that didn't stop me from checking the mount anyway. I even carefully examined the mount with a magnifying glass to look for hairline cracks.

Nothing so far but it's another thing to keep an eye on. I always thought the mount seemed a bit flimsy. Thanks again!

Tire Carrier Recall

Jim,

Thank you for posting this recall. I just had my tire fall off last weekend on my way to the campground. The dealer was trying to tell me that this is not a warranty issue let alone a recall. Thank you for sharing this information it should be Helpful.

We have a 2010 Cougar 327RES that has the recalled tire mount. We had it corrected a few weeks ago and the "fix" is worse than the original. We did not have a problem (yet) with the original mount, but the new mount is already loose and ready to fall off. Heading back to the dealer once again. Don't know if the dealer installed the new bracket wrong or if the "fix" is worse than the original mount.
