Hartland vs. Goodyear

Hey everyone,

I’m about to replace all my TT tires. Discount Tire has quoted me about $50/tire for the Hartlands and just over $100/tire for the Goodyear. Tire size is 205/75R 14C. Besides the price difference, has anyone had any experience with either of these brands? Would obviously love to only pay $50/tire, but don’t want to buy junk either. Can’t seem to find any solid reviews online. Thanks in advance!

I got rid of the trailer kings before a year was up, went with the new endurance and up a load range to D and so far am very pleased. They track well have a stiffer sidewall and the trailer seems more stable. A couple of weeks ago I pulled out of a campground with the temperature reading 101 and as I hit the highway for a two hour pull the outside temperature was staying between 95 and 98. The tst showed the tires stayed between 103 and 105 with one tire reading 107 a couple of times. So just my two cents worth I like them. I checked the dates on them before installed and they where somewhere a round a month old when purchased. My dealer said he put gladators on his and when he threw one out it bound and wiggled like jello. My 2 cents worth don`t skimp on tires. There are several trailer tires that get mention on here and other sites; Carlisle and Maxxis are just two. In a 14 inch range load range d you are somewhat limited in my area.

Goose, you already know the answer to your question.....tell Momma that the lives of your children are riding on those tires. And they ARE.....
Just as a side-note, you might look into Carlisle at Walmart. Great reviews if I remember correctly.from all the members here and at IRV2. $67 each.

Thank you all. I think I’m now leaning towards Carlisle. May be the way to go. Thanks again.

I went with the Goodyear Endurance! Noticed the difference right away. Whatever upgrade brand you decide, you won't regret it. Safety first!

This afternoon I made a deal with Discount Tire for four Carlisle Radial HDs -- 225/75/15 with an E load rating. DT initially wanted $106 per tire, but I went across the street to Walmart and got a quote for $67 each. Took it back to DT and they matched it. I'm also replacing the wheels and got DT to mount and balance for free.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. I have heard stories on here on both matching and telling customers they can't match that price. Just depends on your location. Here's hoping yours matches!

My DT told me they would not price match on my truck tires. They told me if I would buy their lifetime warranty on the tires ($197?) they would knock $200 off the price - about a wash and that's what I told the mgr. (gave me free lifetime warranty on them). When I told him I would never use the warranty - I had never used one in my life, he fidgeted for a couple of minutes then asked if he knocked $200 of the tire price if I'd buy them. That put the price at about $2 cheaper per tire than I had found AND I was getting free lifetime warranty (or whatever they call it). Told him to do it. They may not "price match".....but they may match prices in some other way!

I initially had Carlisle ordered to replace the TKs. Then I noticed the Maxxis and Endurance were heavier than the Carlisles. IIRC...the Carlisles were 31 pounds, and the Maxxis and Endurance were both 35 pounds. Now I am no tire engineer, but at least in my non-scientific mind, I felt the additional four pounds meant more material. Again in my head I figured more material, stiffer tire and more material to battle the heat.

That being said, there are lots of Carlisle supporters in here and I'm not at all knocking the Carlisles. I went with the Maxxis at $110/tire on ebay. The Maxxis along with the TST 507 TPMS and I am comfortable towing my TT!

Good luck,
Mike

Went to DT yesterday for Carlisle tires for the 5er. Quoted me a price of $106 per tire. Showed him the Wal-Mart ad for $67. Said he couldn't match it. Best he could do was $72 per tire. Then cut mounting and balance price by half. Still saved $200 from original quote. Then he showed me the pictures on his phone of the mods on his TT.

Bought the Goodyear Endurance tires last Spring, then RT to Florida and back. Love the way they perform and feel. Definitely have a more substantial sidewall construction. Had the original factory Trailer Kings on for three years, and had no problems at all. But, I wasn't going to push my luck with a fourth season! Glad I made the change. I believe the Goodyears ran me about $150. each, but I believe well worth it. BTW, the Endurance tires are actually made in the USA!!

Whatever you buy, think about going up a load range from your present C's to D's.

"Sold exclusively by Discount Tire, Hartland trailer tires deliver an excellent combination of value and quality. These durable trailer tires were designed to withstand heavy use, and are made to be available in the most popular sizes. Quality materials and advanced engineering make every Hartland trailer tire a reliable product that can resist extreme conditions and deliver long wear."

That's Discount Tire's "punch-line" for the Hartland brand.

Thought some might not know or would like to know.

I thought marathons were no good and the endurance was the better good year brand.

I couldn’t tell based on the reviews I saw. People seem to really like them. Just about anything is better than the Trailer Kings I have now. No further than we travel with our TT, the Marathons should be leaps and bounds better.

When a US based tire company has a tire line made in China, quality control is generally as good as the US made line by the same company. It is only the tires like the TK that don't have any quality oversight that become famous for blowing up. The poor guy asked about 14" house brand tires and was given a ton of info on what ya'll use and no info on the HARTLAND house brand. If someone has first hand on those it would be interesting and perhaps even helpful. I am not sure if DT even sells 14" Carlisles as I couldn't find that diameter on their website (but I am old an prone to not finding stuff these days).
