Wait Time for New Ordered RV

Years ago I ordered a brand new F250 Pick-up truck. It was a new model that everyone wanted and every Ford dealer needed stock for inventory. I was told 6 to 8 weeks but it may be 12 weeks by the time we get it. Well 5 months to the day of ordering it, the dealer received it. What a long wait.

Well moving along to 2018, May 5, I ordered a new Keystone Alpine 5th Wheel and was told 6-8 weeks on May the 5th and its now August 3, 2018 and still no trailer. I was told after it is built it goes to PDI and then after inspection it moves to transportation. According to Keystone the shipper has it as of July 25 and it's marked "HOT" (which means it's a sold ordered unit) but it has not left the yard as of today.

So at least from my experience's, I would not believe what the dealer tells you about an order time line, your almost better off to buy it off the lot unless you can wait and wait......

Camping season in the North East kind of ends November 1 or sooner depending upon where you go, I hope I get some quality time in my new RV in 2018.

Keystone makes about a zillion models. I suspect that a certain model has the line set up specifically for that model and they run so many then change over to some other model. I also suspect that unless the dealer called someone large and in charge up in Keystone factory land, he would not have a clue as to where the specific model you ordered would be run. I also suspect the dealer will tell you you could pull the Queen Mary with a VW bug. I also suspect you signed something and gave the dealer a deposit? If you got any info as to the location of the trailer I also suspect you should see it within a few weeks! Good luck.

We ordered our Avalanche 320RS on Feb. 3rd of last year, and the dealer received it March 10th, so only a wait of 5 weeks. We were a little surprised on how fast it arrived to be honest. I think it depends on a lot of factors, like demand, luck in getting your order in before others arrive, the dealership itself, etc.

I'd check with the Keystone area rep, to be honest you have NO idea when exactly the dealer might of placed the order. I do know at least one manufacturer shuts down production almost the entire month of July. If they are like most dealers that claim they are "waiting on authorization or parts" that usually means they haven't ordered them yet.

No matter what the trailer will only be built while they are building the same model. The equipment sets up to make a certain model and after so xxx many they change to another. At least out here they do it that way.

Not getting any help from dealer, rep or Keystone (only told by Keystone when it went to shipper July 25, but would not tell me the shippers name) as to when it will be shipped. I contacted each of the shippers in near by Goshen, IN and spoke to dispatch, gave the last 6 of vin number and was told that they did not have it but one, said "That's a Keystone and it left the yard today and will be a dealer on Thursday" , wohoo, will see....

I will have a fit if you you don't follow up and let us know when the trailer gets in! Good luck and hope it is this week... btw: noticed you have a 2013 F150... you planning on pulling that Alpine with that little thing? I had a 2013 F150 with the little V6 and it couldn't pulll the tooth on a 7 year old with the tooth hanging out.

I will include photo's of new unit and will be multiplying the F150 x 2.34 = next year. I park it on a seasonal site when not on the road site seeing the country.

Well it arrived as I was told on Thursday Morning. Delivery driver told me the driver was hitched up to it on Sunday and had a home emergency and had to respond to,
( hope everything works out OK for that driver)
So the delivery driver had just did a job to Austin Texas and had returned to Indiana for his next load to Oklahoma and the dispatcher asked him to do the New Jersey Load first and would save the Oklahoma run for him as it was near his home town.

That looks really nice. Maybe that full paint took it longer and delayed it. What dealer options are you having installed?

Looks nice. Be aware that the dark slide ends will definitely heat up the inside so make sure you have enough AC to take care of that.

You said it will be on a seasonal site....but not when taken on the road for sight seeing. Don't do it with a 150. The 1/2 ton is nowhere near capable of safely towing that trailer, so, get a new truck if you are going to tow it ANYWHERE.

That includes an "empty tow" to the permanent site. The last thing you want is a broken rear axle on an overloaded F150 on a busy highway or worse, on a lonely back road where there's no place for a tow truck to turn the rig around.

The dealer options are some grab bars in the shower stall. An Additional hand rail to go up the stairs parallel to curved hand rail as part of coach. Slide toppers on all 3 slides. The rig will be delivered with either F250 or F350 from dealer. Most likely it will be the F250 because it has the long bed vs. the F350 has one of those sliding hitches in a short bed which I am not a fan of.

We ordered ours direct from and RV Show in the beginning of Feb and we could not get a delivery date. We knew it was done but could not get a date. We called our dealer and he went down and got it for us and that was the end of May. We were in the middle of the Change for 2012 to 2013. Keystone called and asked me if it was okay if they put some of the new 2013 on ours. I gave my permission and instead of 2012 we got a 2013. It worked out and we took it for a shake down the end of May.

From the date you ordered it as a 2018 and if it exceeded the Build Out Date for that year then you will be getting a 2019 truck instead at no extra charge. My last 3 trucks from Ford I ordered them in May and did not receive until the end of August. The first Car/Truck off the line for a Model Year is called Job and the last is called Build out Date. That is the last of the parts for that model year are in the Pipeline to the build plant. It also depends on when the order was put in by the Dealer. Most dealers will mot order any vehicles until all Finances have been approved.

So the story ends happily but the take away for everyone should be to buy off of inventory even if you have to drive somewhere to get it unless you are able to wait for an unknown date!
