Passport 2400bh

Hello everyone, Henry from Mississippi here posting for the first time!

I'm in the process of trading my Jayflight slx 264bh for a passport 2400bh. My wife and I like the floor plan and of course the slide a lot better. For us, the passport is a step UP in build quality compared to the slx. Not that the Jayco was poor quality, but we knew it was very entry level.

Regarding the passport, I've read all the horror stories online, and it seems to me it's all about the dealer. If your dealer won't back you up, you're gonna have a bad time. I'm curious about anyone's opinions and experiences though. I'm a lifelong RV'er who could empty a holding tank at the age of 6 (true story), so I have a good grasp of everyday camper nuisances versus major problems.

Appreciate any info and advice!

I went from a Jayco 195 to a Keystone 252bh. From my experience the Jayco was a lot better regarding fit and finish. I bought both used so dealers wasn't in the picture. I do all my own repair and maintenance. The Jayco was assembled well. The Keystone was full of halfway done things regarding finish. I think the materials are okay just that the assembly appears to be lacking. Kind of like a Taiwan woodworking machine, you have to finish assemble and tweak things. In the end you have a decent product.

I went from a Forest River Canyon Cat to the 2400bh Passport. Service from my dealer has been awesome (Big Daddy RV) and I had a very hard time finding anything wrong in the PDI. A couple of spots needed a little more sealant. We have take ours out several times in the past year and have been very happy with it every time. The only problem we had was a recall on the thermostat, which was part of a larger recall. I do know you have to keep a close eye on the caulking in the front between the roof and front cap. It is a great camper though.

Welcome to the forum from Southern MD. I'm on my 2nd Passport and we continue to enjoy it. No major issues or problems. Make sure you check all your water connections for tightness. That will save you mopping later. The folks at the factory seem to have good days and bad when it comes to getting them tight. As you stated a good dealer with a good responsive service department is important in the event anything major does come up. Enjoy your new rig.

Thank you all for the responses! I am supposed to take delivery tomorrow and have blocked out the entire afternoon for the PDI. I will definitely check the water connections and seals / caulking!!

Like anything else, a man gets slightly cold feet before cutting a big check. Honestly, I decided to buy the unit after physically looking at a lot of other campers. I hadn't really looked for negative stuff because most of the Internet is full of negative stuff. Most 'happy campers' are out enjoying themselves!

Congrats on your new rig !! Enjoy

Yeap, pick the best deal with a local dealer you have trust in then do a thorough PDI do not be rushed. A good start PDI list is available on the forum. That will get you off on the right foot and help ensure that your rig is with you camping and not in a dealer bay

Be Safe and Happy Camping

Thanks again for the replies all. I emailed my dealer last night and plan on speaking to him this morning about my concerns (specifically water problems and delamination). I've asked to have access to the roof for inspection and he's going to provide a ladder. These folks have been in business for 50 years, and the guy I'm dealing with has his Eagle Scout certificate hangin on the wall. If you can't trust an Eagle Scout...who can you trust? Either way, I plan on doing a thorough inspection.

My question here is, what does everyone think of an extended warranty? Worth it for $20/month?

Extended warranties can be good if you get a good one. Read the fine print before you decide. Pay attention to exclusions and requirements.

Extended warranties are an "insurance policy" that covers "some (not all) maintenance actions arising from component failure"... That's a fancy way of saying that an extended warranty is a bet you're making with an insurance company that you can get more from them than you pay them. The "fly in the ointment" comes into play because "THEY" get to name all the rules.....

Remember that the big print giveth and the small print taketh away......

Read the contract carefully, especially the exclusions. Most of us have found that extended warranties are usually an unnecessary expense and we've just started our own "repair fund" with the $20 a month. If something breaks, take money from the fund for repairs. You've got a 1 year Keystone warranty and all of your appliances are covered by the specific manufacturer for an additional year or two, depending on the appliance. So, the majority of your "big repair expenses" are covered for the first two years, possibly longer.

Good luck with your PDI and enjoy your new RV.

One of the biggest hitches with RV extended warranties is you almost have to have ALL maintenance preventive and corrective done at an authorized dealer. If you do an of it yourself it's voided. X3 on read the fine print. Hope it goes well tomorrow.

Just visited with our Good Sam extended warranty folks the other day. I lost my hot water heater (leak) and electric hitch jack while in FL. I knew my deductible was $500 so they wouldn't be covered but wanted to go through the exercise to see how something would go.

After they finally figured out it was a 2014 model and not 2017 they said they were absolutely covered, but since the died on different dates it would be 2 different claims and neither was over $500. If they had died on the same date they would have honored the claim.

As my wife and I discussed, whether it's worth it or not is a crap shoot. If you have a major failure, and you've followed by whatever rules they have in place, you could be a big winner. If you don't have any failures, or fail to maintain the unit, you may just be wasting your money. I don't buy extended warranties on anything.....but I did the RV simply due to the large number of "things", expensive "things", that could fail. Will it be worth it? I guess time will tell.

Closed the deal

Well, took delivery of the new passport today. The dealer (S&S Apache in Jackson) was absolutely fantastic. Spent as much time as needed and did a very thorough PDI. Answered all my questions and calmed any fears. Family owned for 50 years, and many employees have been there for 30+ years. I can't say enough good things about them. As for the camper, she's a definite upgrade from the JayFlight SLX. Didn't pull the trigger on the warranty, but I have time and can do it later. Still thinking on it

Looking forward to many a mile...now to plan a trip to Utah! Thanks all for our advice and guidance.
