What I Like Most about Camping

Had a chance to finally get out camping this past week. What a great Lifestyle we afford ourselves!! We had a great time visiting (and being visited) Teton NP and Yellowstone. What are some of your thoughts and experiences as the season progresses?

^Nice pictures. We used to hunt moose back in NW Ontario. Normally don't see bulls hanging together. They are in good shape.
Or are the pictures from different times? One still has velvet and the other a clean rack.

The mature bulls were scraping their racks and sparring. The smaller satellite bull was still in the velvet. Several of the mature racks were still bloody from all the cleaning that was going on. There were five total bulls in this group. Two mature bulls and 3 juveniles. Cows were about 1/4 mile away closer to the river. Rut should be full on in a week or two.

I like everything about it. I do miss my dry camping fishing trips in Georgian bay for opening day Pike and Walleye.

I think the things I like the best about camping are: 1) I always have my bed (versus some motel version that elephants have been stampeding on), 2) I can mostly eat healthy (home cooking, but we do eat out occasionally) and 3) I go places I never would if I was just driving a car. Why the latter? I don't know, but that's the way it's been.

We also get to expand our horizons with square dancing; this past weekend was a square dance campout and we've been to a couple of others this season (MN and VT) with a few more on the horizon.

And to reinforce the other comments on your photos, they are always magnificently composed.

For sure you don't get views like these from the motel room. We love being in the beauty of nature and camping allows us that luxury!
All of us should count our blessings to be able to experience the "Real World"
Thanks all, for your comments.

It is neat to see these animals that close. We were in Packwood WA. and I stepped out of the trailer in the morning and was 10 feet from 2 young elk. They were just grazing and didn't care much about me showing up. Nature is the best part of camping, hands down.

Thanks for sharing Canonman. I like getting out and away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Be it the beach mountains or somewhere in between. The more remote the happier I am.

For me it is solitude, nature, scenery and camp cooked food... nothing like bacon, eggs and pancakes, steaks, burgers... everything tastes better cooked outside.

Yup I have to agree. I think the food cooked outside is a psycological thing, but I will go with what you said Bob

Huntme, you better be careful with where you're going with this...(well, maybe we could use a chapter or two )
This will pertain more about snow-birding than actual camping, but still along the same lines. If I announced loudly in our neighborhood that happy-hour would commence in 15 minutes I would have a total of three people on our deck. Happy hour in Florida is every day at 4:00 and we almost always have 10-16 people. If I happen mention that DW and I are headed to the Alva diner for breakfast in the morning, no less than 8 people will agree that it is a good idea and will join us....it is 40 miles away.
Everybody knows everybody. We take care of each other and most of us are anxious to get out and "go somewhere, do something, be somebody."
At an RV park in Indiana they have what they call a 'pitch-in' every Wednesday evening. 60-75 people is the norm for the what is usually called a potluck dinner.
Have a fire at dusk in your back yard at home and neighbors complain. Start your campfire in the RV park and three different neighbors will bring beer and snacks.
Need I say more?

Glad to see so many folks responding. And, so many reasons we enjoy our RV lifestyle.
My wife has some mobility issues that would severely limit our opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors without our RV. One of these days we'll get down south and visit with Jim and Brenda at the 4:00 deck party
A southern trip is on the bucket list. In the meantime, we'll keep camping and enjoying the life!

We live, "In the woods" on a small lake, have nearly 40,000 acres of state forest beyond the lake, so every day is "a camping day". Our house has a glass room on the back so we can "sit inside while we're outside, in air conditioned or heated comfort".... Why would we leave this to go sit in a tiny box with windows??? Because camping is still "getting away from the pressures and enjoying all that Mother Nature has to offer"....

We make one or two "big trips" a year, otherwise, it's spending a weekend or usually, 3 or 4 days during the week while everyone else is at work, at one of our favorite lakes, fish when we want, read and relax when we want, eat what we want (our docs can't find us or scold us for cheating on the diet)....

Life is good at home, life is better "in that tiny box with windows".....

Awesome pics!! Yep everything mentioned prior but I also really enjoy taking my 3 and 5 YO grandsons out and getting them away from the “home” hustle and bustle. I started taking my son out now hunting at age 6 and we stay in the RV from time to time on short weekend trips. Now I get to do it all over again with these two. Watching them fish, seeing all the different wildlife (not in a zoo). Hopefully they’ll continue to enjoy this as we all do and carry it all on.

We are headed to Warm River and Island Park next week. Maybe some of the FS dispersed camping. This make me itchy to leave right now. Mind saying where you were?
