Las Vegas?
Anybody have a good suggestion on a place to stay in Vegas? I've looked at the Clark county gun range, and it looks nice, and somewhat secure as well. Would prefer not to be on or near the strip.

Back in 2009 we stayed at the KOA. It was nice, I would go to the KOA website and look it up to see if it’s still as nice.

I stayed at the Sam's Town KOA in the summer of '17. It felt pretty much like a parking lot, but I didn't expect much going into it since it is Vegas. The only issue that I found doing research was that they have a problem with theft (especially bikes), so we had to lock up our bikes every night when we went to bed. The amenities were not bad, and I remember things were pretty clean.
I think it was the closest place we could park our trailer to the strip, so that is why we chose to stay there. And if I were to pass through Vegas I would probably stay there again given the scarce amount of options that exist in Sin City.

If you're retired military or otherwise eligible to use the FamCamp system, there's a FamCamp at Nellis AFB in north Las Vegas. It's off base, just about 2 miles further from the strip than the actual base. Quiet (when the airplanes aren't flying) and easy access to most of Las Vegas when you want to indulge.
Also, check MWR's rec center ticket outlet if you're looking for entertainment. Many shows provide complimentary tickets for military use.

The shooting range is good if you don’t want to deal with the strip and traffic, though a bit isolated. Oasis is really top notch, but at times difficult to get a reservation. We have stayed a number of times at the Hitchin Post up to the north on Las Vegas Blvd, no where as nice as the Oasis and during a Red Flag exercise, you will think you are parked on the Nellis flight line, but it works for us and quite a bit less expensive if you are watching your budget.

We stay at Famcamp on Nellis AFB but if you are not military it might be hard, we did look at trying to stay at Oasis but didn't go.

You might look at Red Rock Campground just west of town and very close to the Red Rock Rec area. https://www.campendium.com/red-rock-canyon-campground
Out of town and quiet yet still close to all the LV action. Plus some beautiful desert scenery.

We ended up staying at the Oasis. It was very nice, and probably fine if you're into that sort of thing, but much peeffered our night before that we spent at the Pahranagat wildlife refuge near Alamo Nv. It was free, and the views we're spectacular.
