Looked under the hitch/bumper yesterday and I didn't see anything like what you described. I didn't have phone with me to take photo; if you want, I can get one.
I'm going to stop by the Ace hardware store and/or Harbor Freight this afternoon on my way back from "work" and see what they have.
I also counted links on the chains: 18. Is this standard? Does anyone modify (i.e., shorten) theirs?
