Little door

This is a silly question: what is the little door that you see on some travel trailers? It is usually about three feet tall and most often in the back of the trailer. Thanks!

No question is silly. Most common is an outdoor shower, next would be the compartment for hooking up the city water and park cable.

3 foot tall door? Probably access to rear storage like when there are bunks in the back. That would be my guess.

It could be most anything, all based on the layout of the trailer. We've seen some "little doors" on the backs of trailers that left us totally bewildered. It could be an exterior kitchen, some sort of storage, or ??? Half the fun is trying to figure it out without harassing the owner!

Exactly! The one I saw recently was low to the ground so not an outdoor kitchen. It was about three feet tall. Maybe an emergency exit for the bunkhouse? Ohhh the mystery of the tiny door.

If you look really close in this pic at the bottom bunk there is an example of the door. This is not my trailer but from one for sale on line that got me thinking hummm ?

I believe that is a required emergency exit from the bunk area. It also serves as an access hatch if you use the lower area as storage.

Ken is right, access hatch best describes it. Many of the smaller bunk models include this hatch to allow an owner to flip up the bottom bunk and store bikes and/or larger pieces of cargo.

Makes sense. That is actually a nice feature!

Our 2018 Passport 2920BH has an emergency exit for the bunkhouse. It’s also an access to the storage area under the bunks.

Hi All, Take a look at the floorplan picture for a 2019 Cougar HalfTon 29BHS. The 3foot door is a "Garage" as Keystone calls it. The bottom bunk is hinged and hooks up. This area can easily be used for bicycles and whatever. However it is NOT an emergency exit as there is no interior handle. It locks with a key on the outside. BTW it is very handy.

We had one of these exterior cargo doors on our last trailer. It was a feature I dearly loved as it provided so much exterior-accessed cargo space. When we looked for our current trailer, we just couldn't find any others which utilized this.
