Hot water heater

I have a new Cougar travel trailer and am hooked up to electric and water. Turned the water heater on inside to electric. No hot water. Am I missing steps?

Check AC breaker. Also check to make sure outside shower faucet handles are turned off.

Hope or assume that you have the heater bypass valve turned so that the water is going into the heater. There is a secondary AC switch on the heater that may need to be turned on. It is usually in the lower left corner somewhat hidden by the gas valve/burner tube.

Thanks guys. Turns out I only had it set to electric (for lighting), also needed propane on (ie “both” option). That’s what we learn on first trips?

As already stated: Make sure there is water in the water heater BEFORE you apply any heat to it. If the trailer was winterized, the water heater by-pass valve will have been turned to by-pass and the water heater tank will not fill.
You can verify that there is water in the heater by pulling on the pressure relief valve. Once you have determined that there is water in the water heater tank, make sure the outside switch is turned on. It will be hidden behind the burner tube and is mounted upside down so that pressing the rocker down is on.
Then turn on the electric switch on the control panel inside the camper. You should have hot water. Then, you can decide if you want to run the water heater on gas - electric - or both. If you tried to use the electric side of the heater without ant water in the tank, you will probably have to replace the heater element.
