Holy Wow, Batman!

I was really surprised to see how much the price on this item had increased in the last few months. I was thinking about making a cheap upgrade to my bathroom fan with one of these but now they are in the Fantastic Fan area and I will go with one of those or a Maxxair instead.

I shouldn't have waited.

WOW!!! That's funny .... I just got around to installing one that I have had laying around for a few years. I checked around on line and see that you can still get the one speed model for about $60. If I remember right I paid less for the three speed + reverse that I installed.

I agree. For the present price I would go for the Fantastic or Maxx-aire ... much better quality.

I highly doubt pricing more than doubled due to increased demand. 3rd party sellers (Or even Amazon) can sell out of an item and the price will jump to the next higher price point. In this case, the seller I bought my fan on Amazon from is no longer listed. Inventory may be low at the moment. Wait a week or a month and I'll bet pricing will be where it was, $50-60. I've see this happen with many different products. EBay has vendors selling them for $84.00 right now.

Fantastic Fan area or a Maxxair would be a good choice. I am partial to the Fantastic fans - if they are not in the RV I have the dealer install one. Had one put in the bathroom to get rid of the little/noisy standard bathroom fan.

About 8 or 9 years ago I installed a Heng Model 1 (add on fan box) in our Springdale. As soon as I turned it on I knew it was too loud for us to use so I removed it and returned it to Amazon. At that time the Fantastic 4000R (3 speed reversible) fan was the same price as the Heng Model 2 which had just come on the market. I have no experience with the Heng Model 2 so I can't say whether it's any less noisy than the Model 1. Reading reviews online, comments indicate that the Model 2 is less noisy, but I have not compared the two in actual service.

I can say that I removed the Fantastic 4000R from the Springdale when they replaced the roof after the tree fell on it and I installed it in the Cougar when we bought it. So that makes it an "almost 9 year old fan" and it still works perfectly, is quiet and moves more air than necessary to "clear the air" in the bathroom. We use it when dry camping to help remove hot air during setup and find it to be more than adequate.

I have no experience with Max-Aire fans so I can't comment on how they compare to Fantastic fans, but I can say that for the price of a Heng Model 2, I'd select a Fantastic 4000R "hands down".

I have to look up at my MaxxFan 4 speed fan to see if it is running. In fact I've left it on more than once and didn't know until I opened the door and looked up.. It's in the main trailer, right above the entry door.

There definitely is a quality difference between the MaxxAir/Fantastic fans and the Vortec II's. Completely different build quality. I think it should be mentioned that the Vortec is a self install fan that doesn't require roof access, removal of vent assembly, and resealing of new vent. It's about a 15 minute process to install. The premium fans require much more work and time. When the price falls back to normal levels, the Vortec is a great buy for a bunk house or bathroom, but I would not recommend it for a main bedroom or living space. Secondary benefit to installing it in a kids bunkhouse, white noise!

I used the Vortec II as a replacement in the bathroom, ordered December, 2016 and paid $50.59, freight included. I simply cannot imagine what would make the price double. It is a very good unit in the bathroom, very quiet, but not for a main fan in the RV.

I think busterbrown hit the nail on the head. The ones left for sale are the ones that didn't sell when the $60 ones were available. I sure hope no one gets scalped by one of these now just because they are an easy install. I'm going to wait and see if some of the lower priced ones become available again in the future. Who'd a thunk it?

I just installed a single speed one tonight. I paid about $40 for it.
