RAM has a nice towing chart for the different engine/tranny configurations that is fairly accurate for good performance.

Or SRW 3500 4x4 Aisin tows a 16K high profile 5th wheel just fine. Bonus is that it is a freeway cruiser!! 80MPH is only 1750RPM.
That's pretty good. My F350 has 3:73 gears and it's turning a little over 2000 rpms at 70 mph. I do get about 17.5 running empty at 70 and around 10 mpg pulling my toy hauler.

This is the Fleetguard filter that most use, $14.25(I guess your were including the oil in your $50 number).

Where about is the tag for the use of Mobil 3309?
Looks to be a good buy, about $100 for the 12 qt. with shipping about $8.34 a qt.

I have been buying my Fleetguard filters at Cummins NW in Portland, but now a 3 hour drive, back to Geno's, do you also get your fuel filters there?

Should be on the side of the tyranny above the pan. I believe on the driver's side. Chris

That seems clear enough.

Better bargain than the NV4500 at $26 Qt.! Only need 2 gallons.

Fuel filters $100 and an oil change 3 gallons and filter about $50.

I had mine done in 2017 and the tech said it was dirty fluid but it wasn't burnt. Ford uses two cooling systems so I guess it stands to reason.

Where do you get your oil so cheap? I pay around $23 for a 5 quart container (X3) and another $17 for the filter. I do get my fuel filters online for about $56 but I also run a DieselSite filter too so I can monitor water better. Those are only about $10 each (X2).
The Oil is Delo Dino oil usually can get for about $10 a gallon on sale. I might change to Synthetic which is about $26 regular, but I get a discount, and will watch for a sale.

The service interval is likely due to it being a medium duty tranny, and expected much harsher use. I see the 30K as precautionary and a great opportunity to grab a sample to send to Blackstone Labs.

The Ram service interval for the 2016 is 15,000 miles for oil, I did 10,000 mile changes in the 2001 after testing with Blackstone, I could have easily gone 12,500, but 10,000 was good with me. I would assume 15,000 miles would be easy with synthetic.

Ram also states which I bold'd:

Under no circumstances should oil change intervals
exceed 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or six months or
500 Hours, whichever comes first.

I can never make it to 15K based on changing oil every 6 months. I think it is a bit of a waste of oil, however I have a 8 year 120K extended warranty that I want to protect. On my earlier RAM/Cummins I used a 5K schedule, so I am falling between 5K and 9K depending on travel with the 2015. I have 50K+ on it is 3.5 years.

Given the "or six months" I just use dino oil. I also do not operate in a cold environment that would call for synthetic oil.

YMMV

Chris

Part of the reason I stopped at 10K for length of oil changes is that was about once a year.
Good reason to stick with Delo 400 Dino oil.

As for gear ratios, my GMC has 3.73 rear end & with the 6 speed Allison with NO problems in the mountains & avg about 10-11 mpg towing a 16.5k lb 5er (mountain area drops that to about 8.5-9 mpg) & 16-17 mpg highway.
Exactly the same numbers right down to the 16,500 and winter in Casa Grande so not far away from you.

OK, I'll add my two cents.
We recently bought a 2019 Cougar 30 RLS 5th wheel trailer (34 feet) and last
May I bought my truck. I did not want to deal with DEF fluid so I went shopping for a pre 2013.

My truck is a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Larame crew cab, 4x4 6.5 ft bed
6.7 diesel and 3:73 rear end gears. Single rear wheels. and at the time
of purchase it had 46K mileson the speedo I now have 57K on it.

My 5th wheel weights (loaded) under 12K and the truck has a tow capacity of about 16K.

My reason for the single rear wheels is my truck will fit into my garage and we get snow and hail sometimes.

In Nov we did a 3K mile trip to Southern California and round trip I averaged 9.5 to 10.5 mpg and that was running between 65 - 70 mph.

if you will never go up or down any mt roads, including fed hwy's. then get the 3.73.

the 4.10 will help in the toque for starting, and hills more than anything else. and helps in low speed. (parking deal trans thing as to heat the trans works a bit less).
then there is the tire dia. and what rpm range you want your motor to run in.
neither is very much of a difference. but thoughts.
but i expect that with the auto trans, and mostly open roads one will never really see, might hear a difference. might be a slightly louder sound from the motor due to a couple hundred more rpm's with the 4.10. but trucks are very well insulated these days. not like the old 50's, 60's and 70's pick ups.

a very many years back i was told that if i went to 4.10 in my jeep i would not be able to do any freeway speeds. but with 33 in tires i could still do 65 mph no problem.
now i run 35 in tires, still only about 65 mph. (1984 CJ-7, amc 258 straight 6, 4 speed manual transmission, no sound deadening.)

I own a 2003 RAM 3500. Great truck still, but it is right at the limit of what it shold tow, and I feel it on hills (it slows down a lot), but is fine on straightaways.
Anyway, since this is a Cummins engine, there is plenty I can do to beef up the power, and I intend to, since this truck is paid for.
However, the weak link in all this is the transmission. It is a 47RE. Its fine for the rated load, but not for what I might do to the engine. When you overload a tranny, it will break.
If you are looking at a RAM that is newer, you should be more than fine up to 20K or even up to 30K, depending on how it is optioned. The one thing that makes it a 30K hauler more than anything else is the transmission and gear ratio. At that weight, you do need a 4:10 rear end because torque is what is more important than horsepower.
