Speed
I literally just got done reading a post on another forum... Story about a guy pulling a 26' TT in Texas, 75Mph, almost lost it, plenty of damage and the TT on two wheels.... I feel 55-62 is enough....

65mph should be your top, 60mph is your comfort zone. In between is great. I agree with above mention on tire psi. There is a rule about your speed and how much to increase your psi. To avoid this, I keep tires at recommended max psi and travel at 63mph. Never any worries.

We went to Sedona, AZ a week and a half ago from So Cal. At Barstow, a bright yellow truck pulling what had to be a 35' fifth wheel, went flying past me, I was doing 55. For the next 300 miles he kept passing me every so often, he probably was getting gas, food, who knows what, but the point is he got there no faster than I did, in fact I beet him going 55. I know this because I saw him in Sedona. We were not in the same campsite, but that was the same truck and trailer

I have tried to tell my drivers there is a difference between fast and efficient. The most productive drivers are not the "fastest" but the ones that work at a steady pace, have good habits and plan their stops. (Food, fuel, little truck drivers room).
Rarely will you see a driver beat that average above. Most drivers last I looked at data average 46.7.
I still send the wife and kid inside to use the bathroom while I fuel, then I go in while they get buckled up and drink/snacks settled in.

Speed and MPG
For my recent trip, I was somewhat surprised by my MPG and the speed. While a 100% accurate measure of my speed would be difficult assess, it seemed liked on the travel there, we averaged 63-65 mph, and averaged 10.6 MPG. On our return, I would say we averaged 58-62 mph, and averaged approximately 8.8 MPG.
I believe the difference was on the return, we faced a windy day. We traveled together with my sister-in-law, who was driving a Motorhome, and they went slower because of the wind which is why there was a speed differential.
The positive thing I would have to say, is that in the 5ver, the wind didn't seem to affect us nearly as much as the MH. Not sure I would want to try it on a much windier day, but at least for the 15-20mph gusts we drove into on the way home I felt like we had more control than the MH.

I tow at the max recommended speed of 65 when I can, espeically when there are rolling hills. I have F-250 diesel and it seems to do better pulliing at speed. At 60 mph or less it down shift more and and struggles to hold the 55 mph. I pull an elven thousand pound + trailer. If I drive at 65 it stayes in overdriver and seems to never downshift even on steeper hills. It really likes 70 but I don't feel comfortable pulling over the speed rating of the tires. My mileage is actually better if I keep it at the 65 mph. If the roads were always flat I could see the 55 or 60 mph and actually getting better mileage, but I haven't found many roads in my neighboor hood that are all that flat.

Towing speed
I usually set the cruise at 60-62 and the Cummins gets from 11 to 13 mpg, depending on the terrain. Towing a trailer in California over 55 mph gets very expensive; don't ask how I know. Uphill with a headwind, like I-20/I-10 between Midland and El Paso last December, 50 was fast enough and mileage still dropped to about 9. Our last trip was about 15,000 miles and we hardly ever did more than 300 miles in a day. We are retired; there is no place we HAVE to be today.

Interstate I try to stay at 65, but I do get speed creep from time to time to 70+, just need to use Cruise control more.
Two lanes I travel at the speed of traffic, if this 60 in a 55 then it is 60. I am not going to be some idiots reason to do something stupid!

Just replaced my Towmax china bombs with Bridgestone Commercial TA's (LT235/85R16). Went from Colorado out to California coast and back. Speed varied between 55 in CA to 80 mph in Utah. What a kick. No worries. I have a heat sensor gun and checked tires several times. My trailer tires were only 113, rear truck tires were the hottest. My trailer only has 8K lbs on the axles. I admit, I was just having fun, no fears with new LT's. Glad the China bombs never exploded. Had them for five years, lucky I guess. In the future, I will probably limit my speeds to 65 mph, just for efficiency, although, money is not a factor, as we are loaded!

I had a good friend who recently passed away. We were neighbors for 30 plus years. John and I would sit in his shop for hours and try to solve the worlds problems over a cup of java. One chat I remember vividly was him telling the story of heading to Florida every March break hauling his wife, three kids and 30 foot travel trailer. It was back in the early 70's and John and 3 co-workers all drove big old New Yorker land yachts with the biggest bad *** motors available. And certainly before the days of effective weight distributing hitches. He said by the time everything was loaded the rear bumper was just about bouncing off the pavement. It was a race for bragging rights to see which family got there first. The only stops made were for gas and pee breaks. 21 hours straight through to Florida from Guelph, Ontario. 5 days in the sun and then turn around and do it all the way home again. I know a couple of the cowboys he ran with so there is no doubt in my mind that this was certainly the way it went down.

65mph max here. When on the 405 here in southern Cali its between 55mph and 60mph. I hate the 405!! The 4.88s also keep my speed down

I ain't a grammar teacher but I think that's making a noun out of a adjective or something. I understand "THE ANAHEIM FREEWAY" or I-405.
And it's spreading...the TV news folks are doing that in Houston.
Guess I'm gonna have to get after them too! LOL
