Metal carport size for Our Bullet
We have a 2015 Bullet 272 with a height of 10.58’. I’m in the market to buy one of those metal carports to keep it out of the elements when not in use. There’s no displays to see around here to get a read on the height I need. I’m looking at a 20x36x12 now but the 12’ legs seem to be much higher then I need.
Does anyone have one of these? Here’s a picture I found of a 18x35x12. Look at the height. I don’t need that much

I think I would get a more detailed drawing of the various units with actual measurements. The photo, if a 12' total height, would indicate the trailer was about 8' (doubtful) so need to know where those measurements are taken.
I had a 24'Wx24'x7' building built at our vacation house. The 7' was the height of the opening where we drove the vehicles in - the roof was quite a bit higher.
If you choose to build one 1) go for the highest gauge frame (12?), 2) highest gauge metal (26?), 3) the upgraded anchors (if you ever have any high winds) and make sure your roof metal ribs run vertically, not horizontally. Get as heavy duty as you can IMO. I also think you would like the fully enclosed sides with possibly one end open for entry/egress.

I would think a think a carport/building is a longer term investment than a trailer. I would have a tendency to look into possible future trailer upgrades and try and size the carport/building keeping that in mind and of course your money at hand.

With the height of the carport in the photo, it allows you to access the roof of the trailer while it's parked there to perform maintenance if needed. If you get one too short, you would have to pull the trailer out to access the roof.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I’m looking at the 36’ long with a trailer upgrade in the future. The thing that has me hung up is the leg height. It’s not very clear anywhere you look. I might just go with the 12 footers to accommodate a 5er’s height since most likely that would be the upgrade. I usually cover it for the winter but I was lucky enough to get it inside a friends pole barn this winter. Stick built garages similar in size just cost substantially more then these steel Jobbies.

That’s a very good point. Literally the cost difference between 10’ to 12’ is almost nonexistent.
My main goal for the post was opinions and possibly someone having something similar. Does anyone store rvs under cover?

Make sure it can handle the weight of the snow. Some great pictures today in a Winter RV group of one collapsed on a trailers due to heavy snow.

I have MetalMax brand for my Toy Hauler. Mine is 36' x 12' x 12'. Before anyone asks, the reason for the 12' width is because of where I had to put it AND to stay off off the side property boundaries. Having said that, the leg height is measured from the bottom of the leg ( not including the base rail that they are sitting on) up to the point whee it starts to bend/curve upward towards the peak. My Toy Hauler is 12' 6" at the highest point and with the trailer in the carport, I can access the roof....but I can't stand up, I have to squat and kind of duck walk. If I remember correctly, the max. height at the peak is like 15' 3" or there about.

Any pictures of your setup? I was also considering 12’ width until a buddy expressed interest in storing his TT under it also. He’s got a 25’ Northtrail to squeeze in there. It’ll be real tight but I think it should work.

If your buddy parks under there also be sure his is the one with the entry door inaccessible when they're both jammed in side by side or have both ends open & each of you pull thru If there's space to do so.

And, as you can see in the very first pic, the gravel road that runs along side of my landing pad is why I didn't go with a wider carport. I can get both slides PARTIALLY open, but not completely when it's in the carport. If I would have had room I would have bought on 2-3 feet wider. Oh well!

If you anticipating getting a fifth wheel, some are awful close to 13’ 6” at the front A/C units, so that should be considered before you purchase one of these. The FIL recently had one installed over his TT, and got it wide enough to cover the slides while they are out.

Awesome! These pictures where exactly what I was looking for. We bought our trailer brand new September 2014 and have been procrastinating on a carport ever since. I really would like to have one up by the time I get it out of storage.
What do you have it anchored with? MH augers?

I have a 20X41 with 12 foot legs.....best thing I’ve ever done....
May I suggest an “A” frame with the vertical roof, especially since your in Michigan. (Snow will slide off easier).
And make sure the area is within 4 inches of level so they can install it properly.
Mine was $4,200.00 installed. (Certified)

We also raised our metal storage carport 3 feet. It was 14W by 40L for our boat storage. We used 20 6' 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 steel tubes from our local steel supplier. Worked great!

At our last home, I had a 30x40 pole barn built (a Morton building) for our 5er. Not a low cost item, but it would store our 13 foot tall 32 foot 5er along with a couple cars completely out of the weather. It also provided a small workshop area and dead light storage with some plywood on the ceiling trusses. Unfortunately our current property doesn't have access for a buiding like that. I really miss that building's convenience.
Those open sheds bother me as gusty winds can wreak havoc and they can become a sail.

Properly installed car ports are typically wind rated ,Mine is anchored to the concrete slab and 3ft anchored on the other side.Ive had this for close to 10yrs in sketchy Jersey weather with no issues.
