An ounce of prevention...

Just thought I'd share an experience with you folks that I came across today.
I decided I would pull the wheels off the raptor to have a look and see what shape the brakes were in. I haven't noticed any particular issues with them, but we put a lot of miles on it over the winter, and with another lengthy trip in the near future, I decided to have a look.
The first hub I took apart looked good. Lots of grease, and the pads and puck still had lots of life left.
The second one I pulled, I noticed a small amount of water dribble out, and the grease looked contaminated. Just the very beginning of bearing failure. It likely would have gone a few more thousand miles before it failed, but it certainly would have.

Just goes to prove, a little preventative maintenance goes a long way.

Edit: I should add, for those that don't know, this is the result of a leaking seal. New seal are on order, as well as a new bearing. The old one is fine, and I'll clean it completely, repack it with new grease and keep it in a container in my tool box in the rig, for emergency use.

Here's a few pics of how it looked:

Good job!! Often times bearings and brakes aren’t thought about until failure.

Good catch. Thanks for sharing. I intend to do the bearings on our TT when we get back to it, before this season's travel. We did 11,000 miles last year (the TT's first year since new) and I'm hoping I won't get the kind of surprise you got.

Your TT is a lot newer than our 5er, so you should be GTG, but it never hurts to do a "preventative inspection"
See you at Oshkosh

Yes, we're looking forward to Oshkosh. We almost didn't make it this year. A mix up with my wife's visa got us turned away at the check in counter for our flight in May.
