Drivers License & Registration Question - “Snowbird” or am I?

Hi,

I am extremely wet behind the ears when it comes to RV’ing as I just recently purchased a 2017 Keystone Summerland Springdale 2570RL.

I am a Florida resident, however, after visiting my hometown in CT, I decided to purchase an RV and give the lifestyle a go. I just finalized my divorce after 3-years of hell and I’m a permanently disabled Navy Veteran, so why not!

I love Florida but I also love being around my Mom and CT family. I decided that I would try out being a “Snowbird” (only backwards) and I reserved a site at a KOA here in CT for a 3-month trail period from January 1st thru April 1st.

Thus, here lies my extreme confusion in regards to my drivers license and registration. I “could” very well return to Florida when the 3-months are up, however, I “could” decide that I would like my forever home to be located here in CT. This situation is literally making my brain hurt and is causing my already diagnosed anxiety to blast through the roof. I expected the RV to bring some me solace after the worst 3-years of my life, but uncertainty has me stressed beyond belief. Has my residency changed? Do I change my license? Which state do I register my SUV & RV?

All this being said, I am turning to you for your infinite wisdom, hoping to find the correct/legal answer to my unique situation. Can you PLEASE help?

Thank you in advance! - JKreative

This is the answer for our situation, not necessarily yours. I would keep everything registered in Florida, including driver license and residency. Low or no taxes. THEN, after six months or a year make a final decision. I
I don’t know how to impress on you to leave that stress behind. These things will work themselves out.

I agree, Leave everything in Florida “on paper”. See how the lifestyle fits you.

As others have said, Keep things registered in Florida for the time being. You are, at this point, a "legitimate RV traveler" so unless there's some "hidden rule in CT" you aren't currently in any situation that would require you to make a change.....

Then, this 3 month period will give you the experience you need to determine whether you can live in a 2017 Springdale Summerland in the winter in a KOA in CT..... Depending on the snow, temperatures, propane use and your "pioneering spirit", you may just decide to do a more "moderate temperature seasonal visit" to CT when it's not so cold.....

I agree completely with the others. Keep all your "stuff" in FL....much easier and cheaper and no issues doing so. See how this first winter in an RV in CT goes....it will probably be an eye opener, then decide if you want to do the real snowbird thing vs reverse snowbird. I would go with the latter. If you decide to live in CT permanently then make all the paper changes.
