A/C not cycling

Having a strange A/C issue on my 2017 2890RL. The A/C is on and running and the trailer gets to the set temp. The unit will shut off. Then when it warms back up, it doesn't cycle on. If I turn it off and back on, it starts right up. My EMS shows good voltage. (117 to 120).

Could it be the thermostat or its it the unit itself?

Thanks for the help.

More info on the unit and t'stat would be helpful. Make and model if you have it.

Best guess is the thermostat. As far as I know, powering down the thermostat is only going to affect the thermostat, not the A/C unit itself.

I don't have the exact model info. It is a domestic A/C unit and thermostat. Picture of the thermostat is attached. Click image for larger version

When you turn the tstat on, what is the first readout say? AU, HI, LO?

My understanding is that it has to say AU if you want it to cycle. Check that first?

A/C not cycling

In AUTO mode, everything turns on/off based on set temp

In HI or LO the fan runs all the time and the compressor cycles based on set temp.

If you cycle to “OFF” then back to cool, there is an issue. Either the thermostat or the control board is probably failing, without testing I can’t say.

Thanks for the replies so far. I appreciate it.

I've done a little more playing, so if it helps, please let me know.

When I set the fan to low, it started and runs. Then I turn it to A/C and or started and the trailer cools down.

When it gets cool, the fan and the A/C shuts off. To get it to restart, I have to set it to fan and wait for the fan to start, then I can set it to A/C. If I don't wait for the fan to start, the A/C won't restart.

Does this point to one or the other?

Dave

Yes it does. I’m leaning towards a bad thermostat.

Thank You!

Do you know a good place to order a new thermostat from? I haven't had much luck searching on Google.

Try Dometic website. They should have a search for authorized dealers function. Amazon may have them. Your local RV dealers parts department should stock them.

I'd contact Dometic & check with them on warranty on the original.
