Where to buy and get installed.

Where do I buy, have installed, TT tires?
I mean, can I go to Walmart or Sears Auto dept?
Do I have to go to an RV dealer?

I got my Super Cargo 14 plies from Walmart. I've known the service manager there for several years and he owns and operates a land clearing company on the side so he's pretty knowledgeable about trailer tires. You will probably need to order them though. They mostly just keep passenger vehicle tires in inventory but there online tire store carries quite a lot of trailer tires.

Discount tire. They will install what you bring to them. Carlisle from Walmart and install from DT, best of all worlds. If DT will match Walmart price or come close, do it.

If you buy the tires from Walmart the mounting, balance, TPMS service pack and lifetime rotation cost $13 per tire. Hard to beat that.

From what I've seen the RV dealership will cost you a lot more than other places. If you can, use DT. It is 55 miles to the nearest town with a DT store (3 of them). 1 would be impossible to get into; 1 is marginal but has an area at the end of the bays where you can navigate a trailer of good size and 1 has a nice large area to get into. I've been to other DT stores in various parts of the south and many are pretty tight so you might want to check into what kind of facility they have.

Getting the tires at WalMart and having them mounted elsewhere is an option as well....if the pricing works. I've done that here in our little town in the past; just buy the tires at the best place, take the trailer down (they have lots of space) and they mount/balance them in their lot. This is a tire dealer I've known and done business with for almost 30 years. Just can't buy tires there anymore due to their prices being so much higher than DT and other places.

I usually remove the wheels myself in my driveway and take them somewhere to be mounted and balanced. Removing the wheels myself also gives me the opportunity to inspect my suspension and brakes at the same time and have a general look around underneath. You need to be very careful about taking your trailer to places like Walmart.
They often are not used to dealing with trailers so they may jack under the wrong places and bend an axle. If you take it someplace make sure they know not to jack under the axle inside of the spring perches.

I don’t know of any RV dealerships that do what any tire shop can do. None of the RV dealers I know have the equipment to take a tire off the rim and put a new tire on. I’m sure there may be a dealership that would be happy to take your trailer in, dismount the tires. Take them to the tire store for replacement and mount them back on your trailer.

Your going to have to pay:
labor for a tech to remove and install.
Dealer mark up on the tires.

We don’t do tires. Call your local tire store, America’s tire, Discount tire, Les Schwab, Big O, and ask,if they have room to fit your trailer in the parking lot.

I bought Carlisle tires from www.walmart.com and had them delivered to my place of work. The following Saturday I hooked up and took the trailer to a nearby tire shop where they mounted and balanced all four at $15 per tire. Easy as pie.

I guess I'll check the local Walmart. I've also sent an email to Goodyear.
I really don't want to remove the wheels in the driveway and take them somewhere.

You might want to check online at Walmart. They will ship to the store for free, then you take the TT down when they come in and have them installed.

Keep your hands clean.

Like any place, if you use WalMart be sure and watch them do it and make them lift the trailer properly. I've not been to a WalMart where I was impressed with the mechanical skills of most of the shop folks - but that can happen anywhere.

I bought my Carlisles from Walmart, but they would not install them on a trailer; cars only I was told. Called around and everyone quoted me $25 per tire, so I took it to an RV dealer who installed them at that price.

I just had mine done at Discount Tire. I put on Goodyear Endurance. They quoted the same as the Goodyear site, $127/tire. But online they had them for $109. They matched it and dropped the install price down since I got 5 of them. Got the whole thing done in about 40 minutes.

Over the years I have purchased 14 sets of tires from Tire Rack and had local shop install them. I always give the local shop a shot at sell me the same tires but only once did they match the price so I save a lot over the years and they have a selection like you won't believe. Was especially helpful in finding a set of 4 to do our 16000 trailer. Rating now high enough for freeway speeds and super sidewalls compared to the China tires these all come with.

Tires at Sams Club

I live sort of half way between two sams clubs. One had plenty of room outside the tire bays to park an RV and I bought tires there. The other sams does not have good space outside and they would not do RVs. I have also bought from discount tire.

Most Discount Tire stores can handle a 5th wheel or TT. They do the work in an area close to the bays. Walmart can do the same, I just like the service at DT better.
Make sure you get ST tires, not LT or other truck tires. ST tires are specifically designed for trailers. I would also suggest you go up at least 1 load rating, to add some safety factor. I have a 2006 Montana, which came with load range E tires. I have load range G tires on it. They are a little larger in diameter than the original tires, but still plenty of space for them. The tires I bought have an 81 mph rating, which provides more safety factor (I am an engineer, I like conservative designs).

Getting new tires

When I replaced the tires on our Fiver, took it to a Tire shop, (POMP's is the name, figure it's not a big chain), where the also do Semi-trailer and large truck tires. Talking to the clerk, he said they did all the tires for 2 local RV dealers, because these local RV shops don't have the equipment.

They recommended some tires that were reasonable price, and the installation was quick and inexpensive.
