Raccoon Mountain Campground...Chattanooga

Just curious if anyone on here has been to Raccoon Mountain Campground in the Chattanooga area? My daughter and son-in-law will be joining us for a late October camping weekend and they wanted to spend some time in Chattanooga. I looked at different C.G's in the area and saw the Raccoon Mountain location. It looks to be rated pretty highly and the reviews are generally good. We only live about 100 miles from there, whereas my daughter and SIL will be travelling from the St. Louis, MO area and I want it to be a good experience for them. Chattanooga seems to have quite a lot of activities available and they like hiking also. So what's the story on the CG and any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.......Vern

We stayed there one night last year about this time when a local KOA reserved site proved to be too small for our rig. It was the most expensive CG we stayed in on a 5 week cross country trip. I believe the caretaker/watchman (no one in the office) pocketed our money - but that's only a part of it. The site in a field was way off level, messy plus not a thing locally open in mid Sept.. Not impressed but then, you may have a better experience.

I couldn't download this last night as our CG wifi slowed way down. May have a little more info for you to make your decision on where to stay: http://www.campgroundreviews.com/regions...ampground-2622

Found my note so I could do a review (didn't do it) on what we paid - $60 for our 38 foot 5er which was well more then Las Vegas or near Zion CGs.

Dave, pricewise, it's $44/night for the full size site.....the ones that will allow up to 75' total length....truck and trailer. Maybe it's the time of the year....late October.

The reviews that you posted the link to, are all over the place. It's amazing....some are very favorable and others say they'll never go back. I don't know what to think. I am probably going to do some more searching. Thanks Dave

Stayed there 1 1/2 years ago.....can't say I would use it again but it was adequate for our purpose and needs at that time as we were not at the campground a lot. Really, its not a destination type CG. Sites are close in the part where we were at. There aren't many good choices in the area so........do what you gotta do.
