Shore power/Generator question
Let’s say you are camping and the camp ground loses power. So you fire up the genny. How does the RV handle having shore power restored while the genny is running as well?
This pertains to a Fuzion 417.

Well, if EVERYTHING works as planned, the transfer switch will protect your system.... Of course, with Murphy camped on the next site, I'd unplug the shore power cord, set it next to the campground power pole, fire up the generator and enjoy the evening without having to worry whether things might not work like they're supposed to.....

That was my thought as well. Two more questions.
1). What exactly does “auto” do? I have that option on the In Command console for the genny. So far, I have seen no difference in operation.
2). Well I guess I only had 1 more question. LOL

As John stated the transfer switch ensures you have only one power source connected to your rig. The Raptor and I think it is standard that the generator has priority in regard to the transfer switch. Generator running transfer switch transfers rig load to the generator regardless of the status of the rig shore power cord (power or no shore power). Generator off transfer switch connects rig to shore power cable again regardless of shore power cable status.

Yup, transfer switches are designed to “default” to the generator.

I would play it safe and unplug the shorepower until you turn off the genny.

^^^^x2 - same here. If the xfer switch failed (we always used a manual xfer switch) and put power back out on the public facility and someone got hurt (electrical repairman) you would be liable. Just unplug and forget. JMO

Or open the breaker on the Shore power pole but on 2nd thought you''d need to lockout /tag out the pnl so X3 disconnect shore power.

Auto is supposed to turn genny on when battery voltage drops and shuts genny off when voltage returns to normal. I can't remember the actual voltages (not enough coffee yet), but as I remember they are in the In-Command manual.
Edit: Manual says gen. will turn on at 11.8 volts and run for 60 min.

Just had it happen, Campground lost power. I fired up generator and transfer switch connected generator power. CG power came back, and I turned off generator, and shore power was immediately connected. Works as it should.
