Fresh water tank vent leaking

Hi folks. I am connected to water via a hose. Yesterday we replaced the hot water pressure valve because it was leaking. Today I noticed that water is coming out of my fresh water tank vent. I have checked the hose connection. I shut the water off and turned the pump on and used it for awhile (I read that some times when water is shut off it can cause over filling) and it’s still leaking. Any thoughts?

It's more likely that the internal check valve in the pump has debris keeping it from fully sealing and that is where the water is coming from. Might turn off the water from the hose and run the pump for a while. This might clean the debris out of the pump check valve. Next step would be disassemble the pump head to clean all the seal areas. This will most likely fix the problem if the first step doesn't work.

Another thought; if you are connected to “city” water via a hose, what are you using for a pressure regulator, and what is it set at? Having the two issues you described seems to imply there might be a high water pressure situation.

Turn off water pressure to camper, then cycle the “fill valve” back and forth several times to the other setting possibly labeled as “normal flow”. Leave valve in normal flow and restore water pressure. Exercising the valve helps it to seal properly again, thus ending the fresh water tank receiving a drizzle. Personally, I didn’t like the fact that the overflow was located on the compartment wall as pictured in your post. I re-located it to drain straight down through the floor to the exterior. There was plenty of excess drain tube to do that, just required a 1-1/2” hole to be drilled.

The external fitting on the outside wall is actually a vent for the fresh tank, even though it also allows water to exit when the tank is overfilled. The vent for the tank is necessary to prevent the tank from expanding or collapsing when filling or when using water with the pump. Air has to be vented when filling and air has to be admitted when water is removed from the tank.
