Water Heater Operation

I have a dual gas/electric water heater in my Cougar 1/2 Ton towable. I operate both the gas and electric at the same time....dealer said there is no issue with it...WSY?

No problem with doing that. It will heat the water up more quickly.

Do it all the time. DW likes to take long showers. Rig is 6 years old and no HWT problems. YMMV

I recommend it during my walkthroughs. Many new water heaters show the recovery rate of each alone or together. They will show a much faster rate with both heat sources on.

I run both every night for our showers and have no hot water issues. Cut them off and turn the electric side on for doing dishes and such. Recovery rate is much quicker and it's nice not to have to cut the water off and on all the time - even though I LOVE those cold spurts when you turn it back on!

When we first set up I'll run it on both to get it up to temp quick. After initial warm up use electric only for hand and dish washing. Turn on both for a shower.

Nothing wrong with doing that.

One caveat though...I’ve found that if we are running the AC and the water heater on electric at the same time we’ll get close to the 30 Amp limit on our electrical system, so we typically don’t bother running the water heater on electric. It really doesn’t use much propane. Our two 30# tanks last the full season.

Raptor has a 12 gallon HWT so I have not experienced many issues, however on unique occasions I have used both heating sources for quick recovery.
