To qualify for free, you must eat the 4.5 pound roast, a baked potato, salad, roll and shrimp cocktail.

I am pretty sure I could not eat one of them, in several hours.

Back when I used to eat in there back in the 70s it was the steak, fries and rolls. They didn't ask you to eat a salad and a shrimp cocktail. I guess too many folks were getting it for free. I know I did every time I stopped.
Sure wish I could eat like that nowadays

We were in the middle of a company merger. There were several new folks coming in from all over the country. We landed late in Amarillo on a Lear jet. The folks were hungry and the Texan was suggested (me). A fellow from back East decided he wanted to go for it. After the clog dancing etc. he alone was taken to a table under the spotlights with an announcer giving the bite by bite. He had ordered this monster steak WELL DONE. We watched for what seemed like hours in the corner (with cold ones) as the pit master kept cooking.....and cooking this huge piece of meat. It finally came out, folks lined up in front of the table, the announcer announced, the people cheered him on.......he ate for the hour and consumed maybe 1/4 of the steak. Sad....really sad. I took him aside and told him I was proud of him but.....this ain't sushi country!!!

First I do not think we have been to a Texas state park we did not like. We have been to most of the one on your list,
Brazos Bend
Caprock Canyons State Park
Palo Duro Canyon
Looks like you been here. Inks Lake State Park when there visit Longhorn Cavern State Park
Mustang Island State Park the site with power are in a parking lot and restroom are used heavily by beaches goer, rare to find hot water for shower. But you are near the beach.

Lots and lots of huge pine trees there, so lots of shade in the summer time. Decent amount of trails to hike. There is also a decent sized lake there to go swimming / kayaking / canoeing.
The first year the family and I went just happened to be Halloween. I was impressed with how many campsites were decorated and serving candy to trick-or-treaters.

1) Kerrville-Schreiner Park in Kerrville used to be a state park until the city took it over. Very nice park with lots of maintained trails and river access. The river side of the park connects with the Kerrville river walk with its miles of paved river trails. We live 2 miles away and go there often.
2) Goose Island state park is another favorite but I think it's still closed since the last hurricane.
3) We go to Padre Island National Seashore quite a bit but you will need 4 wheel drive and a love of sand if you want to venture very far down the beach.

I should have responded. I decided to go to a few SPs around Dallas. I'm going to Tyler SP and Lake Tawakoni SP. In early August, I plan on going to Colorado and will make a stop at Palo Duro SP.

We just stayed at Becs Store & RV Park this past weekend. It is north of Concan about 6 miles and right near the Frio River. Plenty of other nice places in the area. Check out campgroundreviews.com for more TX Hill County parks. wg
