chuckster57, Need your pro advice ref. Fridge

I have a new Samsung residential Fridge. Model RF18. Pretty standard with higher end Keystone units, what I'm told. It cools great, freezer works great, but cannot get the ice maker to work. The cube tray rotates ok, temp is good, but the tray won't fill with water. The fitting valve is in the on position (all the way counter clock ways). The digital read out shows ice maker on.

What am I missing. I cannot figure this out. The dealer, Keystone, and Samsung was no help, other than take it in and leave to be fixed, which I don't want to do. That's why I'm asking for your help. Thanks

We don’t sell or service your model so I may not be the best of help. Only thing I can suggest is to trace the supply line back from the fridge. There are probably 2 separate shut off valves, question is where??? Sorry I can’t tell you more.

Terry, Their is not an outside vent panel. It's a residential fridge. I'm stumped. I reckon I'll try to find an additional cut-off valve as Mr chuckster suggested. Thanks Guys

I forgot to mention, I traded in my 2012 Alpine for a new 2019 Alpine. Appears to be a really nice unit, other than the ice maker problem.

I hope you figure it out. If you have an island kitchen, I’ve heard/seen the ice maker shut off valve under there. I would have thought you would have been told where it was at your walkthrough.

I have that model fridge in my unit. If yours is the same, there are two shutoff valves for the water supply in the ice maker. One is behind the fridge, and the other is under the kitchen sink by the cold water supply line. I have a diagram from mine I’ll attach.

My shut off valve is located behind a panel under the oven.

Thanks for the diagram. It helps to understand the valve locations.

Hopefully I solved my problem. Their was not a valve installed at the sink, just a cut off piece of 1/2 blue PEX. By blowing air through the outside line connected to the slide, it went to the cut off peace under the sink. I installed a Shark Bite "T" in the blue sink line and bingo, I had water to the ice maker. Now I have to wait 24 hours (according to the Samsung manual) before it starts to work. Hope that does the trick. Thanks Guys, you were a huge help.

This my sound stupid, we could not get ours to make ice. The ice light was “on” and it would never make ice.

I got out the step stool, looked at the light, and it’s very small, but when the light is “on” the light actually says “off” in the light.

Soooooo if the light is “on” the ice maker is “off”

Again, not sure if this is your issue.

Fridge

You are just lucky you don't have a Norcold fridge. We have had a 2008 Montana and now a 2014 Montana and we had trouble with the Norcold fridge from day one almost in each of the RV's. We've had the whole insides replaced (of course while on vacation.) Also, a NUMBER of times we have had to call for service after a sprinkle or rain because the Norcold has a small circuit board to protect the Norcold in case it overheats. The board is located on the rear of the fridge next to the air panels on the outside of the RV. The least amount of dampness that falls on the board it will go out. Of course, each rain or sprinkle gets it wet and the fridge will beep and is out of service.

You can use a magnet to "reset" the relay, but who wants to do this in the middle of a rain fall or you may leave for a few days and leave the RV with your fridge full of food and a couple of days return to find everything spoiled because the Norcold had shut down. We will go to the Gulf of Mexico sometimes for 5 months at a time and during that time drive home for a few days to take care of things and leave the RV. I've have learned to "BYPASS" the circuit board and do without the heat protection.

There is a test button on the bottom side of the ice maker at the front. If you push that and make it cycle you can see if it is adding water.

Another thought. . .

Another issue is the feed tube can freeze up with water that doesn’t make it into the ice tray. You can remove from behind and thaw or use a hairdryer blowing in the fill tube coming thru the freezer back wall into the ice tray fill section. Idea being to that froze plug in full tube. Had this issue early on in my Fuzion.

We have same fridge. The controls are stupid IMHO. The ice maker is on when the “glass of ice” is not showingThe ice maker is off with it showing.

Same Problem

Pull out the drawer under the cook range. There is another cut off valve there. Be sure to check to see if it leaks. I had to replace the brass ring on the tubing on my new Keystone Montana. It took me a while to find it.
