What grill do you use

I have been using a simple Aussie grill I purchased from HD several years ago for about $50. It is time to replace it and was wondering which to get. I do have a few requirements though, charcoal or wood only, light enough it can be loaded in bed of my truck by myself, and enough cooking area for a full slab of ribs or maybe a Boston butt. My folding Aussie has been great for grilling or smoking by using indirect heat but it’s beginning to burn out on the bottom. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would recommend either a Pit Barrel Smoker (been using mine for 7 years and love it for slow smoking) or a Weber Kettle with a Slow n Sear from ABC Barbecue. Both are light enough to load by myself and they both work great. The Slow n Sear will give 225 to 250 degrees for about 4 hours on one chimney of charcoal. The Pit Barrel will cook up to 4 slabs of ribs (cut in half) or 8 short slabs hanging or 1 or 2 pork butts on the grate. One load of charcoal will last for 10 hours. We have been using the fire pits at the NC State Parks for steaks, burgers etc. but I still love slow smoking.

My next grill will most likely be the Pit Boss pellet grill, it'll smoke, grill, bake, just plug it in, load the hopper with pellets, set the temp & enjoy great wood cooked flavored foods. The smaller size is light enough to be easily portable.

I use the Weber jumbo joe 18 and I have been very happy with it. It is light and compact and I can cook for my family of six on it.

I had a treager but got tried of always removing the legs and putting them back on, I just got the Green mountain grill Davy Crocket, nice and portable and can be used on 12v dc.I saw a lot on people using the pellet grills, way easier. IMO of course

Ditto, I have the Davey Crockett as well and have taken it on the road with us. I keep a Coleman Roadtrip in the Monty and use it a lot on vacations. I've had it for about 10 years. It's been a trooper. With the optional full griddle it's great for breakfasts.

I use the Cuisinart table top grill:
https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CGG...-12-spons&th=1

Mine is the rolling cart model, so lightly different setup, but the grill is the same. That grill gets HOT, so you can really sear with it. I can fold mine up to put in the back of the truck for easy travel.

I've got the Aussie propane grill that came with our trailer. It's 6 years old, still working and does an OK job for hot dogs, burgers, some quick cooking steaks or chops. For any "serious cooking" a propane grill is not a substitute for "wood fire". We have a "schewnkbraten grill" that we bought in Germany, probably 30 years ago. It's an adjustable tripod frame and round grill, suspended from a chain that also can be adjusted to maintain cooking temperature. We suspend it over the coals, at the edge of the campfire, and "trap heat" with an old "dome shaped skillet lid". Depending on the time we've got to prepare food, the seasonings used, the quality of the meat and the type of wood we're burning, we've produced some surprisingly tasty meals.

Easy to pack, use and clean, it's served us well.

We use 2 different cooking methods - we have a tri-pod over the campfire (3 legs and a hanging grill) folds up and stores easily. We have had that thing for 30+ years and it has served us well. We also carry a Weber Smokey Joe - it is really 2 of us for the most part and do not need a huge cooking surface. Prefer to cook with wood or charcoal. My DH bought "me" a Blackstone Flat Top for Mother's Day last year (yea, it's for "me"). He loves it.

I'm using a Coleman Roadtrip LXE grill. Not the best I have had but I am going to replace it with a campchef Pro 90X as soon as they come on sail at cabala's in Canada.

Weber Q 2200 for us.

I modified it to use the camper gas port. I also modified the regulator to mount to the new quick connect on the grill and added a hose to it so I can connect it to a regular propane tank.

Not wood or charcoal but does a good job for us.

I have the cast iron griddle for it and it is great for breakfast.

I have a Napoleon Travel Q. Brand new as someone stole my old one, but I liked it so much I bought another one. I like that it has 2 burners.

I doubt this is helpful but; I am now using a Weber Q2200. Bought it this year but will probably replace next year - just not happy. As far as wood/charcoal, I just don't carry one with me; too much trouble to clean and way too dirty to haul in a truck/trailer with a lot of other "stuff". Whenever I get to a site I go buy the charcoal/wood cooker and use it for the time I'm there. When it's time to go I find someone that wants it and give it to them. We generally stay no less than a couple of weeks. Overnight and weekends I just use the gas grill (whatever it may be). I will say that I was in Lowes (I think) the other day and saw a portable propane smoker that was reasonably sized that might be handy. I'm going to look into that.

I'm afraid I have to put a bad word in for our Q, and the cast iron griddle that was gifted to us. There is not a chance in hades a steak could be grilled on that sorry thing. Severe beating, cursing and a new regulator for $40 still made no difference. The griddle had a surface the very same as a cement block. How in the world would you fry an over easy egg on that? That POS hit the trash so fast, before we even forgot who gave it to us. The grill, after three years of frustration, was given to a plumber who said "No problem, I'll fix this." He trashed it before we left Florida that year. We offered the legs/support system to Danny who promptly told me "No way, Jose!" His went the way of being returned to the store I believe.
I know some have a little luck with theirs, but be very wary of the purchase.

We use a Camco Olympian Stainless Steel 5500 propane grill. Has a stand that connects to the side of camper or you can use it table top. Runs off small bottles or connects to large tank. It is low pressure so it connects direct to camper. Very satisfied with it.

I have a Weber-Q that I find meets most of my needs, but since you asked for charcoal or wood, the Cobb Grill is the bomb! Not made for feeding an army, you'll find it exceedingly versatile and the ultimate in portability - just the thing when weight/space is at a premium. https://www.facebook.com/COBBgrillAMERICA/ https://cobbgrillamerica.com/product...acebook%20Shop
